This is a link for rooting the Verizon model, G900V, on the previously unrootable firmware.

I have not tried it. Use at your own risk. Read the thread, below, carefully and thoroughly before proceeding. This is for competent users

    Working Root Method For 5.0 Lollipop Roms [OE1] [OG5] [OK3] [PB1] [3-3-16]

I suggest that Verizon owners root while they can as, knowing Verizon, they will probably close the exploit off in their Marshmallow firmware update.

(Thanks to sean19661 for the above info. :))

My S4 is dead. Power button died and one of the soldering points couldn't be saved. I have an S5 which I really don't like as much but it's what I have now.

I have 4.4.4 on it currently. The latest update is waiting to install from Verizon. Since this is a fairly new update as I wasn't getting the notification last month when I last had it on (wife was using it when her S4 broke).

Is there a new update or was my phone just slow to get one that has been available for a while? Do I need to use the old method to downgrade to 4.4.2 before using odin to flash the kernel?

If you accept the latest Android 5.0 update then you will lose root and have to re-root as per post #1.

My S5 is not currently rooted. I just want to make sure that if I let it install lollipop over my current4.4.4 that it's not something verizon just unleashed to close this latest method.

The latest update, PB1, is just a security update. The fact that your phone is still running Android 4.4.4 a year after Android 5.0 was released, led me to believe that you were already rooted as Verizon force updates to their model.

Ahh. Yes, that's a perfectly reasonable assumption. My S4 is on 4.2.2 and was rooted years ago and frozen. The S5 just hasn't been used more than a few times.

So after the update, it's still on 4.4.4.
