Newbee to Android Captivate

I got my Android (AA&T) last week and am trying to become intimately familiar with it....so I will have only a few hundred questions..from what I've read so far, there is a wealth of knowledge on this site. I'm trying to lose enough weight to shrink my fingers to use that itty bitty keyboard.

Turn it sideways landscape is better
