Ok, here is a thread for the newbie's to get started on. This has alot of info on who, what, where and why. Just take time and read and check the link and you still need help then do what we do best and ask a question. There are alot of people out here on this forum who are earger to answer questions, if you have any doubt ask b4 you try. So, you might see alot talking about .340 and .595, .596. these are the prefixes also as in X.X.340 .340 is froyo based, so when you see this is all about froyo baby NOT Gingerbread. .595, and .596 is Gringerbread or A.K.A GB. Now .596 is the offical Gingerbread where .595 is a "leak" verison. Something failed as in SBF or flashing a ROM what do I do?..... Try agian. Some where down the line something fail or user error happend You have to use Droid 2 Bootstrapper for anything Gingerbread!!! So that mean if your going to be going from froyo to GB then you have to use Droid 2 Bootstrapper! Droid X Bootstrapper is only for Froyo! Ok so lets get to the good stuff. CAN WE ROOT THE OTA GINGERBREAD? As of right now no! but things hopefully will, you have to SBF back to froyo and install rooted ota Here is the link to the ROOTED OTA GB. [Hide] used this process to SBF. Creating a bootable linux CD soley to SBF *headache free* That will bring you to stock .340 Then after you are on .340 you need to get z4root and root it once again. Then grab droid 2 bootstrapper as droid x boostrapper no longer works for GB. Then you will download and install this 2 part file in this thread to get you to .596. Just make sure you download the 2 part file because that is the one you want, and yes it is already pre rooted. Just make sure you follow all directions, and install both files before leaving recovery. http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-discussion/7651-official-dx-gingerbread-2-3-3-4-5-596-release-thread-something-everyone.html Short instructions: 1.be on rooted .340, no ROM or anything 2.Get droid 2 bootstrapper 3.Download 2 part .596, then put them onto your sd card. 4.Open droid 2 boostrapper, click bootstrap recovery, then reboot recovery. 5.Wipe data/factory reset. Wipe cache partition. Go to advanced-wipe davlik cache. 6. Install the GB part 1 file 7. Install the GB part 2 file. 8.You are on GB, just reboot. Helpful hint- If you just move the two files onto your sd card and your looking at them in recovery you won't be able to see the entire name of the file, so basically it cuts off the end that says part 1 or part 2, this really freaked me out because I couldnt tell which was part 1 to install first. In the end I used common sense to realize file part1 will be the one listed first on the list because its in alphabetical order.
