You are not alone. My upgrade is not due till the end of the year and i look forward to seeing what the nexus 3 has to offer, plus whatever else the future smart phones bring to sprint.

Depends how the performance stands up, nvidia are great at marketing and I'm sure they will find a way to make Tegra 3 look fantastic even if it's not.

But hopefully it will be allot faster, might tempt me over to the dark side. :p

You can assume that's a given or else we wouldn't have made it to the Nexus 3 in the first place. :D

Well you could but then there wouldn't be any interesting debate on who will/won't pass on other phones whilst waiting for this to come out.;)

On topic: If i heard the next nexus was gonna be htc AND on verizon I would definitely wait

I'd like to wait for the new Nexus 3... I just don't think I can wait that long.

I think Nexus 3 will be based on whatever new SoC platform is ready by the end of the year. Most likely it is Tegra 3, but Qualcomm's Snapdragon 4 might be another candidate.
It is also possible, that Nexus 3 will be manufactured by LG, because HTC and Samsung had their contribution already, and also because they both are tied in other SoCs.

The expected specs of Tegra 3 are dazzling, and I would for sure wait for it. SGS2 seems now the king, but that would no longer be the case by the end of this year.

This is an age old question.

You CAN ALWAYS wait. By the time the Nexus 3 comes out, there'll be rumors of a phone using Tegra 4 technology with 5GB internal RAM, with 4D cameras and 5D screens, and using 6G technology.

Wait wait wait wait. Never stop waiting.

Me? I'm too damn impatient. I'll buy the best today, and upgrade later.

I don't exactly have to wait for it because I already have a Nexus S, which I'm extremely happy with. But i will definitely be buying one the day it's released. I say buy something now and then buy it later as well. :)

Its just that the wait is only "a few more months", according to the article.

If its wait a few more months for some run of the mill phone, I'll just pick up the Evo 3D in July. But a new Android version is def worth a few more months. For me at least.

Lets be honest.. any original Moto Droid owner (since November 9th) who has had the same phone and not upgraded due to there not being anything crazy different is waiting for this beast. And if not the Nexus 3, it'll definitely be in comparison to the tegra 3. Gotta start with somethin fresh!

It won't be out in the next few months AND have Tegra 3. Nvidia has gone on record seveal times stating that their optimistic goals is to have tablets running on Tegra 3 released during Q4 2011, and phones during Q1 2012. We're 7-10 months from a phone with Tegra 3, not 2-3 months, unfortunately.

I really don't think it will make a differance what you get now, or if you did get the nexus 3...

Logically i think of it as

    Games

I really don't think developers are going to make games for the Nexus 3 (tegra) because there are 100's of other phones which they can develop for all at a similar level of spec.

The xperia play has its own PS1 ports and other games just need to enable pysical hardware keys so no big problem

    Apps

The only real advantage i would see is the speed of apps in miliseconds maybee?

    Fragmentation

We know it happens quick, but not quick enough to make all the 1ghz Snapdragons and Dual core phones obsolete.

I am going to have to disagree with what you had to say about games. Android is constantly adding more game dev's. Some of which are specifically making their games for the Tegra platform. We already know about Shadowgun which looks awesome. But just imagine what they will accomplish when they can specifically develop for the Tegra 3 chipset. I frequently play games on my phone, and sure games like Shadowgun will run on other Android devices, although if the Nexus 3 does have the Tegra 3 i would much rather be playing it at 60 FPS than 30 FPS. Plus just imagine the console quality games start getting released, in a year from now i suspect a lot of good games won't run that well on a 1 GHZ processor. With how fast technology is developing next thing you know we will have octocore processors.

There is always a reason to wait at least a few months to upgrade but you have to make a decision some time. And features that come with certain specs are worth the wait especially if you are on a tight budget and have to keep your phone for a couple of years. Not everyone can be so lucky to updgrade every year, so i say just be happy with the decision you make and you won't have any buyers remorse.

ever since i moved to the android platform ive been using pure android devices (g1 and nexus one).. so i keep thinking that if i get a non-pure android device, i might regret it.. so yeah my next device definitely will be a nexus

Honestly? I don't recommend waiting it out if it so happens your contract will soon end.

Anyone should not accept the cycle of always waiting for a better phone, because there is always better ones that keep coming out. Remember, even Samsung and HTC are planning to make product cycles of only SIX months. That means they are already planning successors to the Galaxy SII and HTC Sensation.

Just simply plan to buy the best phone available in your carrier when your contract ends.

So, the latest news is that Nexus 3 will not have Tegra 3. Instead it would either have TI 4460 or Snapdragon 4 Krait. Kind of disappointing.
