I got my new nexus s 4g - and on 1st day it has downloaded a OTA update with a notification. I believe this is Maintenance Release GR22.

I have the out-of-box firmware on it and its rooted/ unlocked w/clockwork recovery, su etc. I have "broken" the update script by pulling battery out while on the update info screen until I have information about the update

with my last phone [optimus s] sprint's OTA updates de-rootified it.

    Does anyone know:

What effect this will have on root access or hotspot?

Is there a "safe" way to install it or procedure to re-root it after update?

Does this fix the reception issues?

there are no updates yet. root access will always stay as its google phone which is not locked. wifi hotspot might get killed, you have to wait before updating and have some of the developers confirm it

Oh thats the one you are talking about. Mine got installed as soon as i turned the phone on after getting it from sprint. I thought there was another one. Ye that one is safe to install. It doesn't disable hotspot.

the only thing I noticed is that 4G hotspot doesn't work for me but I never tested it prior to maintenance release so I can't tell if its related to the release or not

I tried to install it and now the update disappeared ;-)

so I will keep messing with it and install it & report back

I don't think you'll ever have to worry about losing root access on the Nexus series. They're designed for maximum hackability because they're the developer devices.

I think you are right. By the way- does anyone know how to get the update to show up again? I lost mine.
