"no compatible player found"

On the Nexus S I get the error message "no compatible player found" when I try to play an avi video. I've tried several different media players and none seem to play avi files. I've tried several avi files. (I'm actually try to stream them from my Buffalo network hard drive via an android app called "Webaccess A".)

I can access the hard drive directory and see the files, but when I click on a file, it will try to load for 30 secs and then give me the error message "no compatible player found".

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you play the same file directly from SD card?
If yes, then check the Webaccess A features to see if it supports streaming video files, and what are those video file specs.
