So as far as I've seen, even though we have a recovery for this device, we don't have a custom ROM (ie, Cyanogen).
    Is this accurate?

Any ideas on when we might start seeing them?

    Thanks for your thoughts!

Well dev work takes some time. There aren't many people working on this device as of yet, but as SuperR has pointed out cm is being worked on. Source built roms take a long time to develop and may never be fully functional. SuperR's stock deodexed from would make a great base for a stock based rom if you would like to build your own.

if i had a guide to go by or a nice howto write up i could take the time to try to make a stock based performance one. like the old days with the samsung prevail 1. nobloat deodexed. max ram and overclock. back then i managed to get a 900mhz single core prevail with only 170mb free memory to play ps1 games :)
ive been overly anticipating a stable kernal to come out so i can get to playing ps2 or possibly ps3 games 8(
i wonder if a sony xperia rom like for the sequent can be made for this phone as well.
