Last week I bought a mint condition DROID 1. It has zero scratches and, according to the seller, was used for three days when she purchased it new, two years ago. She is disabled and she said it was too complicated for her so she re-activated her old flip phone and put this one in a drawer.

After I purchased this phone I went straight to the Verizon store for activation. It had a clean ESN and activation went smoothly in terms of phone features; however, no data features. They worked on it for two hours and then gave up declaring the phone to be defective. Now I wonder, do I just throw it out? Any thoughts or ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Welcome to the AndroidForums, volleyballlguy.

Wow, that certainly seems a little weird...I wonder if there actually is something wrong with the phone that is not readily visible--perhaps water damage  that might have fried a vital component (such as the radio)?

Apparently the indicator is under the battery cover:

    and here's a pic: http://i50.tinypic.com/vyobxy.jpg

If this turns out not to be the issue, you might want to search and post in the OG Droid forum:

    Motorola Droid - Android Forums

Droid - Support and Troubleshooting - Android Forums

There's more than a few folks and threads in that vast forum that might have a better suggestion for you.

Cheers and good luck...I hope you figure it out (let us know :)).
