If it's just a phone, why does it have a web browser, etc on it?

A kickstand isn't too much to ask, I don't think.

Makes watching porn at work a whole lot easier.

I am so glad it doesn't have a kick stand, I really don't like that idea. But to each his own, because my brother-in-law says he cannot live without it. I like the idea of it, but didn't care for the looks of it on the EVO.

Maybe someone will make a case that will have an integrated kick stand on the back!
That's what I was hoping too. It needs to be functional though. I've seen some godawful homebrews out there that make putting the phone in your pocket impossible.

Really a kickstand?! Thats a problem? it is a phone not laptop, or tv
What's your point? There's a beneficial function that's fulfilled with a kickstand. TV's and laptops are irrelevant.

it does however have that really nice dock that we saw in engadget's leak
Yeah, but I don't want to shell out $40 for the multiple stands that I'll need to keep the thing upright.

Let me put it this way.

I would like my phone to stand at my desk, next to my bed, at work, and at school (or wherever else I sit with my laptop).

That means I can do one of three things:

1) buy 4 docks
2) buy one dock, and plug/unplug/carry it with me along with my phone
3) wait for a phone with a friggin kickstand

Now, before people start saying "big deal" to #2 (I know you fanbois are out there) - lets think about this. The mobile phone market is about portability. It's not very portable to lug around a dock that's the same volume as your phone, in order to watch it hands free. I see posts here comparing the size of the Shadow to the Evo, where people squabble about the difference in mm. The volume difference between that and an additional dock is several orders of magnitude. Nobody can tell me that lugging around a dock like this wouldn't suck.

A kickstand is a no-brainer - they serve a needed purpose within a small volume footprint.

Before I got the Evo I thought the kickstand was, as said by someone else (whom I don't remember) "the f*#@ you cherry on top" but it's really useful sometimes. I wouldn't say it's a dealbreaker if it didn't have it, but it's pretty handy. There's been a couple occasions I wanted to show some friends a video on youtube and instead of holding the phone up for everyone I just set it down with the kickstand.

I for one am thrilled that it doesn't have a kickstand. My first complaint with my Droid was that it opened in my pocket, more so over time, and the screen came on, which killed the battery. One thing that I think Apple has gotten right is that moving parts always break, get loose, or are the most likely to break. My MacBook doesn't have a messed up DVD drive, like my HP, because it can't move around. The Droid X won't have moving parts to get loose, come open, or otherwise bother me. I'd rather buy 5 docks then have to buy a new phone when my kickstand gets loose, as it inevitably would.

Also keep in mind that someone may release a case with a kickstand built in, so you get the best of both worlds. I still want an actual dock for my evo to use bedside, but the kickstand is more of a handy "let me show you this" kind of feature. T-Mobile sells a case with a kickstand for the HTC HD2, I'm sure others will follow.
