I know this problem has been discussed in multiple threads elsewhere without solution, but since I believe I have solved this I thought I'd start its own.

I believe the issue with Google Maps 4.0 is the same issue many of us have had with other licensed apps and all paid apps, as discussed insamsung galaxy apps missing.

I finally rooted my phone, just installed Market Enabler, and now Maps 4.0 shows up in the market.

Really, works great after Market Enabler faked my true country.

    Thanks!

I'm in Canada and 4.0 Maps is available to me after 1.6 without rooting. What I cannot seem to get to work is the Navigation.

Navigation is only available in the USA. Unless you want to root your phone and use ADB to delete the /system/app/maps.apk file and reinstall it through nav launcher (Gives the option to download it if maps isn't already installed).

However, the navigation still isn't very good because it's a "hacked" version of maps. Some problems with it are that it doesn't show the next street's name and voice navigation is too delayed to be useful (Tells you to turn many seconds after you pass/make the turn.

I'm just using iGo on mine. It's the best GPS software I've ever used (and doesn't use data like Google maps does either).

I go a long way back with iGo, back to MioMaps and Windows Mobile days and once it was announced for Android I was a happy camper! I have got Android and Navigation working on the HTC TyTNII, yes Windows Mobile phone. That was an experiment that made me join the droid camp! :D

Navigation part of the Maps never worked reliably for me in Australia. Most street names on the route were missing and voice guidance was close to non existent. iGo is the way to go right now but I have to wonder for how much longer?
