Sorry, it may be just another "No more free space" thread but it's really giving me a lot of trouble.

I'm using Desire with Froyo on 3 and I don't usually download much apps but even with less apps every now and then I have to delete apps to make room for new ones (which are not possible to be transferred to SD); Do use "APP2SD" and it works great but again there are huge number of apps which can't be transferred to SD. But now, I am really fed up with this.

I don't want to root (I know this is the solution). But any other thing to solve this?

Now, I do realize the benefits of large internal memory of iPhone and Palm.

Secondly, I am thinking to switch to Palm (due to large internal memory and its aesthetically appealing graphics). I have read reviews about Palm and what I got is that it's just that currently it doesn't have large number of apps, otherwise it's as good as iPhone or Android (some say, even better). The reason if I liked aesthetics so much then why I didn't buy iPhone or Palm before: First, I don't like the way iPhone presents its OS; everything is scattered; No push e-mail (major drawback for me); Secondly, about Palm, it's just available on O2 in UK and O2 has got pathetic 3G coverage and I didn't want to leave 3 since it has the best 3G coverage. So, want your comments on benefits and disadvantages of Palm as compared to Android. Is the difference big or small?

    Waiting for your comments.

I just don't get these posts - clearly some people's idea of "not many apps" is different to mine. I have a fair few apps installed (maybe 30), I'm running non-rooted, stock O2 froyo without the SDK trick and I have 70MB of free space. I reckon I could put another 20 or so apps on without hitting the low-memory problem.

I know some people seem to have some app eating their phone memory (email?, contacts ?), could this be the problem?

Apart from that if you want to run hundreds and hundreds of apps (and, really, can you actually use them all ?) then you'll have to root (but at least you have the option).

I agree with Griff_LI, if someone doesn't want to release the full potential of a phone to meet their needs but would rather change phones then no phone will be right for them. Any comments about the good or bad points of a particular phone are subjective.

I wish the original post all the best in their quest for the 'right phone'.....

i thought APPS2SD only worked on rooted phones?

anyway, try this method (if you didn't already):

Well, I don't know about you but here are statistics according to "app2sd": 28 apps on phone; total: 147.62 MB, Available 19.8 MB.

So,...I really wonder how you managed to have 70 MB free space.

    You would though, right? [IMG]

As for those apps filling up the phone it just really depends which ones you are using. I could probably install 200 tiny apps and barely take up any room. Or 5 fullsize games that don't support App2SD and fill it up in minutes.
Just see which ones use up the most space and decide how much you really need it.
To me Palm looks like a dying brand but whatever floats your boat.. You could always just get any of the newer Androids which have larger internal memory of course.

Err... dunno. I have now counted. I have 27 apps installed and 70.41MB free.

It could be email? How long do you keep Email for ? How much email do you get and how much of the message do you download ? Could be that you're filling your phone memory with data not apps ?

It could be contacts. I've heard of a few people having huge amounts of contact data - do a search there are fixes for this one too.

It could be any of those apps holding data too - I presume you've been through clearing caches ?

Yeah, you may be right about Email because since May (this year when I bought this phone), I deleted only few emails and usually keep them. And there wasn't any need to keep them on phone. So, how can I delete all of them now? It'll take a lot time to select every mail and delete them. Any way to select all and delete in one or two clicks?

Personally I don't have many apps on my phone, I don't see the need for them. Seriously, are there really that many "must have" apps out there that you can't live without?

I get by with the usual Google apps plus a handful of others, I've got 83Mb free on my phone!

I just noticed that while I deleted one email from my Gmail app, it automatically deleted that from online gmail as well. No. I just want to delete them from my phone, not from online account. So, what should I do now? Will using HTC's own email app or K-9 help? I mean they are not properly connected to Gmail a/c, so may be they will just refresh to check any new emails but won't delete them from online a/c. But then, there won't be any push email. I need push email. Help.

I never used to get how people filled up the phone, but i've been juggling apps for the last month or so. I've moved everything i can to SD but i'm 25mb free and don't consider to have too many apps. I remove the ones i don't really use. It is a bit annoying.

I have less than 10 actual apps on my phone:

    Facebook
    Twitter
    Dolphin HD
    EStrongs File Explorer
    eBay
    Angry Birds
    YouTube

Of which Angry Birds, Dolphin HD and EStrongs are moved to the SD card. I then have the system updates:

    Market
    Flash
    Maps
    Gmail

With all these on a stock phone I currently have 80-odd MB free, give or take 5MB. I don't 'make do' or 'get by' - I don't need to use any other apps. Even HTC know they messed up by giving the new models over 1GB of internal space. A2SD+ is a workaround but really no one should HAVE too root just to get basic functionality that shuold've been included from the off

    It's all HTC's fault!! lol!!

All stored internally with no tweaks? If so, how?? As those apps aren't large...

I also delete all SMSs as soon as they're read and email is Gmail so once read it's archived so not stored on the phone anyway

I use william's apps2sd method and have almost all my apps moved. NFS is a HUGE game and is moved too.

Only thing I don't move are apps that need widgets and my keyboard.
