Weird issue, I get no phone or data service unless I am in an AT&T hotspot. Anybody know what the issue could be?

    Samsung Galaxy S2 i777
I've had the phone about 2 years and have had no problems until last week when I changed out the micro usb port.
Any thoughts are welcome, particularly related to how access within a hotspot is different than outside of one.

    Thanks!
    Steve

    1) Phone calls are made via 2G data, not wifi, so the hotspot has nothing to do with phone calls. There's no difference in 2G whether you're near a hotspot or not. There's a difference in 3G/4G data - you have none, so the only data you're getting is wifi (which is what a hotspot is).

    2) You have no 2G/3G/4G service because, obviously, you disconnected or broke something when you replaced the port. It could be something as simple as a distortion of the case, causing the antenna to not connect to the springs.

    Welcome to Android Forums.

I moved this thread to the phone/carrier forum dedicated to this phone.

(If the carrier is different - send me a private message and I sill correct it.)

To be clear, I am able to make calls, retrieve voicemail, send/receive text messages when I am in the hotspot. When I leave the hotspot I am no longer able to do any of these thigs.

I'm thinking a may have damaged the antenna when replacing the usb. I've ordered a replacement but was just wondering if there's anything else I should be considering.

update, I replaced antenna, still no service.
I've also put in my original usb, which wouldn't allow my to charge phone, but still gave me service, but now I still have no service
