    Hi All,
on Friday I got the prompt to update to Android 4.3 (Jellybean?) on my S3 device, so I accepted and the update and it was soon complete. After all the required restarts, I noticed the 'turn off all sounds' widget was missing leaving a big gap on phone's desktop (or whatever you call it for a phone). The widget was completely missing but more worrying was that the widget / app for 'all sounds off' was engaged 'on' at the time of the update.

I think you know whats coming....I have NO SOUNDS and no way of turning them back on??
I'm sure that the particular widget was pre installed on the phone when new.

Any ideas on how to recover the sounds?
Please describe any reset procedures i need.
    Thanks,
    Rob.

Have you tried going into Settings.Sound/Volume and turning them all up?

Hi, yes, I've tried all the settings available, which show me my volume setting is on. I can adjust the volume up and down without any effect.

Interestingly the only sound I do get is the annoying start up jingle that wakes the whole street in the morning.

    also, when I adjust the volume hard keys the pop up says;
'unable to adjust volume while sound is off. You can turn on the sounds by going to accessibility settings'

Of course, sound is on in these settings.

For me this is a software glitch. The update to 4.3 with the 'all sounds off' switch on, and subsequent deletion of the app has left the handset in an unrecoverable state.
    Any ideas on reset procedures?
    Rob.

I made an account for this XD

Go to your settings > My device tab > accessibility (4th last option) > 2nd last option is the turn off all sounds.

I hope they bring the widget back.

For everyone with issues after the update I suggest you try first a full factory reset. Okay, so you lose your data but you can backup important stuff like photos, videos and text messages, the former to your PC and the latter via your Samsung account.

This may be very inconvenient but it's better than having a phone that's less than useful.

^ if only manufacturers would push a message to users before updating recommending a factory reset and advice on how to back up data first we wouldnt have this situation where people become scared to update.
Us in the root community have always known how important it is to do a data wipe when upgrading android version so surely the manufacturers know.
What would be even better is if there was a stock option to only wipe the data partition like we have in custom recovery then people wouldnt have to worry about deleting the rest of their stuff
