No volume when playing videos on Windows 7

I have HTC Desire with Android 2.1 and Windows 7 Premium 32bit. I have created some 3GP videos on the HTC and can play these successfully. When I transfer the file to Windows 7 the playback via Windows Media play doesn't have any sound. Same files playback with volume via iTunes.

I'd really like to use these files with Windows Media Player. Is this some sort of codec issue?

Why are such task seemingly simple tasks made so difficult?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

It sounds like a codec is missing from media player. Download MediaInfo, its free, and open the file in that, it will tell you what video and audio codec it uses. Post that here and maybe we can help you.

the problem is the SAMR audio codec. You need to play it through QuickTime in order to hear sound.

I specifically said "I'd really like to use these files with Windows Media Player" so your suggestion to use Quicktime is a little off the mark.

The suggestion from @sitlet made me think. As a result I installed the Windows Essential Media Codec Pack. This did the trick.

I was going to say, AMR is a wierd codec. I was going to tell you to see if you could download that, but since you already figured that out, hope it works better.

Google up klite codec pack for a pack of codecs to play stuff like your having issues with and them some. I usually install it with every clean install of windows.
