Help No way to update

Hi,

I have a problem where my phone refuses to check for OTA updates as it says it's modified. I also can't connect to Kies.

This leaves me with the problem where I've got no way to flash updates.

Besides trying to fix Kies (there's enough of those threads already) is there any way I can check for and install updates?

I recently updated from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1 and the problems started then, although I'm not sure if I could have done something else.

u can download the required firmware from sammmobile and flash it to ure phone via odin.

Great! I've found a file with the correct version number, and the PDA and CSC numbers match my AP and CSC numbers when I dial *#1234#

The site recommends using Kies, so will Odin be ok? I've used Odin to flash CF Root before, would it be the same options (tick boxes) as I did then?

Lastly, I'm assuming I'd lose root using this method. Would it also wipe SuperSU and CMW from my handset?

yes it would wipe everything make backups first. Its safe to use odin. You would need to root again after u update.

Thanks again. I'm going to try a factory reset later, I stumbled across SURoots post about why it's a good idea to do this after an update, and I've noticed my phone has been sluggish and system apps like settings keep crashing.

If that doesn't work, I'll either re flash the stock rom or take the opportunity to venture into custom roms
