I would like to root my phone when 2.2 gets rooted so I can take advantage of the wireless tethering.

I see many people on here root, reroot, flash, wipe, all the time. Is it ever possible to just root, set up one thing and then just leave it?

If it is going to be something I will need to mess with every other day then I'm not as interested as if I can just set it and forget it.

    TIA

BTW: great forum...maybe I'll be able to contribute someday!

2 things, first 2.2 is unrootable at the moment. Once it is available to root, you do not have to flash every other day. People do this because they are either trying different roms or are flashing the cm6 nightlys. I did this for a while and did not have to flash every night once i found a rom i liked. For now, you can use easy tether to tehter using the usb cord. I am in a similar situation since my evo has been swapped my new phone came with 2.2 so we must wait for the time being until root is available.

The beauty of the phone (and Android) is that you can do whatever you want. I think what you're seeing is a lot of people trying out different things to see what the phone is really capable of. Once you have the freedom to do what you want, you tend to go nuts for a bit, but eventually, you'll settle down with something that suits your needs. Or not! Really depends on the person.

But yeah, I've tried lots of stuff but keep coming back to the same configuration:

    Stock rooted ROM
    custom kernel

And recently, I've decided that my favorite launcher app is ADW Launcher. So I'm going to stick with that.

I understand this but I am trying to get internet to ipod/ipad applications while traveling with the kids and such.

There is no way to get usb tethering to an ipod is there?
