Ok, so i have a droid x. I would like to root it. I had the phone flashed to Metropcs. I noticed theres an app on the phone after being flashed. Its called superuser, the icon is a pirate. Does that mean it rooted?

I am not too familiar with flashing to different carriers as in your case with metro but its odd that that would enable root .....there may be more going on here ....to see if your rooted just go to the market and download a root app for free then see if it will work ...it should say whatever app you try has been granted super user permission a d it should also say so in your super user app as well

I also downloaded "wireless tether" and it worked.

The phone probably had to be rooted first to even be able to flash it to metropcs.

well you can theme, mod, install custom roms ,,,,overclock /undervolt,there is much you can do with a rooted device but my strong suggestion would be to read ,read and read some more and ask plenty of questions first,,,trust me it will save a headache in the long run lol,,,here is some reading material to get you going

yea, ive been reading that, but since I know nothing about this, its confusing. Im not going to mess with my phone just yet. I want to figure all this out first. What im interested in is, making my battery life longer and maybe get some cool themes.
