Well as the title has implied, mine just broke.. fell out of pant pocket unto pavement "blacktop" and shattered the screen! I bought this thing because it suppose to be Mil-Std 516.6.. Well my wife called Verizon and sure enough they wanted $100 to fix it because it's consider abuse... WTF.. the phone is less than 3 weeks old.. I even told them i would cancel my contract and there response was "Fine send back the phone and we charge MSRP on that phone because it's broken" Holy Crap are these people serious?.. Well I called Casio and they confused to say the less.. After i explain that it fell less than 4 feet (about 3 1/2 feet) to the blacktop the screen shattered . Now i have to ship it to Casio and there a freaking 2 weeks turnaround.. I really hope that I was the exception and that none you guys go through this because Verizon is no help. Ball is in Casio court now.. I'll kept everyone posted.

the casio uses a 1mm gorila glass for the screen upon checking the gorila glass web site i found that the screen is twice as much from most other phones. All moterola phones and samsung phones use .5mm thickness of gorilla glass. so it might not have lived the fall but for sure no other phone would have ether :(

I can say that I havent tested the falling part of this phones ruggedness but I have testede the heat and cold as well as taking it to the beach and using it in salt water then in the sand. I use it as a shower radio while it gets soaked every day and never had a problem with it.

Think you just happend to have the one unlucky fall that it takes to break the phone.....:(

Wow that sucks. I have dropped mine from over 20ft and not even a scratch. Casio is a little funny. I was having an issue with my phone activating apps when talking. They asked if they could have the phone. I was worried because it actually works great. The asked me again and even sent me a new phone to replace mine so they could examine it. They wanted a description of everything I had done with it to date. I hope Casio takes care of your problem.

It's great to hear that Casio is stepping up to the plate to learn about real world use of their phones, even if Verizon doesn't. Not too many glitches with mine.... A few apps have malfunctioned, but I don't know if that was a phone issue or app issue. Today I was talking to my wife using the speaker phone, and my phone froze. I held down the power button until the phone finally powered off. Hopefully that was a one time deal. My charging cradle arrived today.... I think it will be worth the money.

I've dropped a bunch of times, from different heights, no issues. I will say this, Casio has always been good with repairs. Having many G-shock watches over the years, their service has always been top notch.

Thanks, Guys! when i had the phone i really didn't have any glitches, except with the netflix app it kept rebooting it. But that i guess is a normal problem. Also all of a sudden the ear piece volume went really low. it went back to normal after a reboot and it didn't happen again.

I noticed with the ear speaker that if its not in the right spot in my ear i cant hear a thing and then I move it a little and I ca hear it just perfect so try repositioning it if that ever happens again

I have a Droid Charge but would've loved to have gotten a Commando if it was only 4G. From the sounds of it, Casio is really concerned with the quality of their product which is why they want a detailed letter. Send it out for the betterment of the future of the G'zOne line. I want my future phone to be the Commando 2 LTE!!!

Ok Update Well i can now say i truly regret getting this phone. I called PCD Casio warranty department and talked to Stacy (no extension) and Mark (supervisor) and they want to charge me over $120 to fix it. I got upset and told them that this is marketed as a rugged phone and that it fell 3 1/2. There response was it rugged not indestructible... WTF! decided that instead of paying Casio to fix this piece of Crap I'll would pay Verizon. So People please don't drop your phone that suppose to survive a fall.. Because Casio is now a company that won't honor there own warranty.

Glass is glass...but it looks like it can still easily break...even when they try to "beef" it up. Sorry to hear about this story. :(

What I would be concerned with is if sales people are talking customers out of getting insurance because of how rugged it is. I don't know that I would pay $7 per month to insure a phone like this because I would probably feel it's unnecessary.

I maintain that if the phone is truly made to mil spec standards, they HAVE to cover/replace it if it is damaged. If the mil spec standard for a fall is 4 feet and the phone is damaged in a fall of less than 4 feet, then Casio saying that the phone is made to mil spec standards is a lie and false advertising.

I stand corrected. When I purchased mine, the rep told me it could survive up to a 4 foot fall without damage and that since it was made to Mil Spec standards, the extra insurance probably wouldn't be needed.

Of course, I just couldn't get used to the screen and lack of Sense, so I returned it for a Dinc 2.

    Hmmmm.

Why wouldn't they make the screen plastic or poly carbonate ?

Yeah, I thought about that too and I'm guessing they couldn't make it as responsive if using something other than glass...and then it would be viewed as a "cheap", unresponsive device.

I only looked on Verizon's site before. You're right. Casio says it can withstand a 4 foot drop. If that's what they state...then they should stand by it. I don't know why they think their glass wont break (thicker glass is still glass) and it's a dumb move to advertise such a feature.

You shouldn't EVER expect to drop a touch screen phone 4ft. with a screen that is flush with the case and it be okay. Carpet may not kill it but blacktop (or other hard, uneven surface) will. That's just physics.

Agreed!!! Whats really ticks me off, is that they wouldn't stand by their warranty.. I understand that sometimes things happen when building or manufacturing a product you "might" get substandard materials. As a company, they plan for just such events and replace or refund your customers to save product integrity . They decided it was easier to blame the customer than to replace the phone. Remember this a company worth billions not replacing a what $400 phone. Again i wish everyone the best with the phone. But don't buy into their hype on ruggedness.

    Absolutely...

If Casio says that this can withstand a 4 ft. fall, then it BETTER withstand a 4 ft. fall. It's not very realistic with a glass screen, but Casio made the promise and they should stand by it, period!

Some of the LG Optimus phone screens are plastic and there screen responds very well.

The Motorola DEFY glass screens were shattering also so I say glass on a rugged phone = FAIL.

I would really like manufactures who put out rugged phones to look into poly carbonate screens as it truly is shatter proof and scratch resistant.
