Help Not receiving Gmail notifications

Firstly, in accounts and sync I have ticked the box that says 'Auto Sync', but I've turned everything else off other than the 'Sync Gmail' option, which is ticked

I also have email notifications turned on in the gmail notification settings

Yet when I send an email to myself as a test, I'm not even receiving the notification at all, let alone instantly (which is important as the whole purpose of this is so that I can get facebook notifications as well as my email)

Anyone have a solution for this?

What if someone else sends you the email?

If I use the gmail app, I don't get notifications if I send myself a test email either.

You can test it your self using the web interface though. I assumed that was what milleniummanp did.
