If this recall is global, I'm going to be one of many very ill people.

I read the part were they won't be replacing the phones but only the parts needed to fix the phone. It's out society that lets these guys think it's OK to just fix a major malfunctioning phone instead of replacing it. I would not be happy with that and would just return it and get another later. Pretty sad of Samsung.

Sure would be a nice gesture of Samsung to offer Note 7 owners a 50% off voucher for the Note 8 ;)

This would be such a disappointment. I was just starting to settle in with the phone, as my daily work phone. I hope the providers just replace with a new phone instead of just replacing the battery.

I'm not putting much stock into it all until Samsung issues a formal statement to current owners that they need to bring their phone in to be replaced.

It seems like it is not an issue of the exploding battery here in the United States as of yet.

Here's what doesn't sit well with me, typically when a company has a recall this big, they don't have all the resources available to issue a NEW product to everyone. So typically what happens is you get a refurbished unit. I don't want a phone that's been used by someone else, I think I'll hold onto mine until it burns something, unless Samsung wants to give me a complete refund and I can go elsewhere (and I'd like a refund of all my accessories too).

I sorta feel sorry for Samsung (never thought I'd ever say that) here.

I'd be interested to see how many of the reported incidents are down to a cheap, 3rd party charger as opposed to the phone itself.

I wonder how many digs Tim Cook will have in his iPhone 7 release spiel next week.

Me neither, but it'll still be covered by the same warranty, you know it won't be defective and it's much preferable to having an exploding phone.

My phone does get warm periodically when charging while also completing other functions, and especially when it was downloading that immediate software update. However, I don't know that I want someone else's phone that they may have screwed up, and I also depend on my phone for daily activities. Sending it in, waiting weeks for a return...dunno if I'm going to do it.

I'm not trading mine in without a replacement in hand to transfer everything.

I don't mean financial resources, I mean millions of devices that have received their fix ready to replace every phone that's been sold. And who's to say that they won't dig into their pile of current returns and recycle that material? Before you say that they won't, remember that HP was using refurbed parts without labeling the units until they got sued.

And then here's another problem I have, what if the quick charge feature is the issue and they scale back how fast it charges as a result of the fix? What if another function is lost because of the fix? I think I'll either stick with this current phone or if I am forced to return it, I'm going with another manufacturer.

I agree about the accessories. My screen protector was not cheap and cannot simply be taken off and installed on another phone.

Be interesting to see how the do the exchange. I'm not going "weeks" without a phone and I don't want to use a "comparable one" while I'm waiting for a new Note 7 to show up.

If I can't exchange in store for a brand new one, I'll either wait until I can, or if forced, I'll just get a cheap phone to use until either the Nexus/Pixel comes out (supposed to be October) or wait until the S8 comes out.
Most likely I'll go the Nexus/Pixel route if I can't wait or exchange in store.

I'm in the same mindset. My phone is important to my job.. I don't have a Samsung store without a 2 hour train journey one way and all day session out.. I've not felt it warm at all while charging. Its nice and cool and the only warmth is after its been sitting in my pocket in a warm car or warm day.. (would be shocked if it didn't) the phone has been amazing I'm over the moon with it and unless they send a courier with a one to hand over and I'll post this one back I'm not giving it up and going weeks without. I got mine direct from Samsung UK so no third party involved.

We'd all better get a HELLUVA discount on the Note 8 for this debacle. I haven't seen a release like this since the infamous Galaxy Nexus nightmare of 2011.

The iPhone antenna release comes to mind. That one seemed a little worse to me only because they tried to tell people that they were holding the phones wrong before they finally owned up to their defect.

Did Apple admit to the defect in the end? Same with apparently bending iPhone 6.

AFAIK Apple has never had to do a global product safety recall with iPhones. Like every Note 7 has to go back and shipments are suspended. This is like Toyota recalling cars back for checks on the brakes or something. Sometimes real product disasters can and do happen...
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague
...and if some company screwed-up with Samsung's batteries.

    AntennaGate, BendGate...and now BatteryGate?

Man so I'm just now catching up on all this. Sucks to hear about this recall. I would hope that they send out new phones first then we can send back the old ones. The article I just read said that it will take samsung about 2 weeks to finalize the recall info and they will tell us what to do.

The article I read also stated that we might get a free gift for our troubles as well.. That's how I understood it. It's all too new at the moment so we will see what samsung says in the next few days.

I don't mind replacing my phone for a newer one that they send me but I mostly hate that I'm using a screen protector and now I'll have to buy another one because I only had 1 out of my 2 pack because first one I messed up. Oh well it's only $10 for my screen protector.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was launched in 2016, before subsequently being removed from production over battery issues.
