Looking at how to connect my new galaxy note 10.1 to tv (for showing movies, etc) - it seems like you have to use the samsung 30-pin to mhl hdmi adapter which costs around

This works for various outputs. I ordered a similar one from another source but this is cost slightly more than those with a single USB output.

This will not work. It is an OTG adapter that has nothing to do with MHL.

You also require a power source to use the MHL adapter. The MHL adapter has a slot for HDMI AND another slot for an external power supply which you would use your OEM cable for in most cases.
