When the phone is "sleeping" and a message comes through, I hear the notification. I don't see the flashing light (even though I have that turned on for everything) and the screen does not come on.

Is there a setting that I am missing?

I don't think it has a light around the joystick. Thats probably why it doesn't light up ;)

I'm talking about the light near the top right. So, the screen does not wake up when a message comes in?

Don't know how the joystick made it into this thread...

Me either. I searched and I don't see how to get the screen to wake up when a message comes in. Oh well....

no, you are not missing a setting...assuming you have the visual notification turned on, the notification light flashes for about five minutes after a new message comes in but then turns off to save power...I confirmed this with both HTC and Verizon CSR...I believe this lack of a persistent visual reminder is a serious flaw that hopefully will be addressed quickly (Blackberry's light is like a strobe in comparison, and it manages to stay on indefinitely)

Thank you. I found that Handcent as an option that will turn the display on when a txt comes in.
