Is it possible to have these at separate volumes? I want to have my ring volume all the way up and have my notifications, such as sms, a little quieter. Is this possible???

Go to Settings > Sound & Display > Ringer Volume and uncheck the little box that links the two.

I use quick settings to achieve this way easy. I only have brightness and volume control as my settings displayed in quick settings. The rest of it can be controlled with the power control widget.

Also, quick settings lets you adjust ALL volumes individually in one handy window. That way I can always ensure that my alarm volume is all the way up. I've missed work so many times because I left my phone on vibrate or the alarm volume reset to 5/7 when I restarted the phone. Glad that's fixed in 2.1.
