There MUST be away to get the virtual number keyboard that pops up when editing numbers in contacts.

Most of the time when I need to enter numbers, I need to enter numbers, not symbols. Does anyone know if there is a way to get the ONLY numbers virtual keyboard when inputting in fields outside of "contacts"?

When I'm entering numbers in the Browser, for example, I think it makes much more sense to hit "123" and be taken to the ONLY NUMBERS keyboard, and another button for symbols.

    Is this possible?

In Swype, you just swype from SYM to F to get the numeric keypad up.

    what keyboard are you using?

With the stock keyboard I always liked how you could swipe up above the top of the keyboard and the numbers pop up like in a real keyboard. But I understand if this is not a suitable replacement for a standalone keypad.

I'm using the stock keyboard, but what I like is the way it shows big numbers and only numbers when inputting numbers for "Contacts". Any other input field I hit the numbers key for and I get the one with the numbers lined up at the top and all the symbols. I wish they would just have a button for symbols and a button for the larger sized number keypad.

Try the HTC_IME, it blows away the stock keyboard. http://www.gimpsta.com/themer/ You can create your own custom themed version at that link too. You can easily toggle between qwerty and numberpad with this kb too.
