Dear All. I loved my Desire (Android 2.1) and guess i still do, but using the compact qwerty keyboard renders the phone useless when trying to send a text or email! It just will not accept the words "I'm, I'd or if". I have seen a couple of posts where this has been mentioned, but does anyone have a fix?

The phone should 'learn' those words if you use them often enough, mine initially didn't like 'I'll' but now it throws it up no problem.

When you type an unknown word, and have prediction enabled, press the orange highlight and it'll get stored.

I cannot add any word with an ' in it to my dictionary.
It will not accept I'm when I select it from the list, and the messaging can force close!

    handy that!

    What?

    im=I'm, ive=I've, youre=you're, etc.

What's the problem? Just type them, then space and let the predictive bit do its stuff!

    Agreed it should just work!

Failing that you can always turn the predictive off and manually type them in so stored in custom dictionary.

for I'm that does not work, it has it available in green but when you press it, or space, it does not put anything. you have to manually put I'm.

    I'm always changes to Um.

Which is just daft, is um even a word? Surely it's a hesiatation.

Anyone know how to fix these

    Thanks

Sounds like there are some differences with one phone over the other. Perhaps you could post more details about your phone such as the Android version you are using and the branding.

Also, I presume you've checked the keyboard settings and found nothing amiss?

that's weird, usually just when I type: im id autocorrect takes care of it and changes it to I'm I'd.
It will give you other suggestions too, that you can cycle through using the optical trackball to choose between
alternatively you can manually enter those words into the keyboard dictionary from settings

If i type Im the first option is Um and sometimes i forget to look that Um is there and i carry on typing and send the message with Um instead of Im. I would have thought you could delete words since you can add words.

I think you can only delete the words that you added, or maybe it depends on the keyboard. I'm using 'Touch Input' (I guess that's its name) and it only allows me to delete words that I added or those it 'learned'.
