Text below lifted from VF forum:

Here's what the latest Vodafone firmware actually does for you :

    - Changes your browser homepage to the 360 login page
    - Duplicates all your text messages
    - Installs Vodafone apps
    - Adds bookmarks to your browser

    The bookmarks include :

    - Flirtomatic
    - Match
    - BBC
    - Facebook
    - eBay
    - Amazon
    - Lottery
    - BBC Sport
    - MySpace
    - Argos
    - Train Times
    - Sky Sports

    The apps added are :

Places - Points of interest (but not designed for UK users. Gas station? ATM?)
    Music Shop - Doesn't work
    360 Shop - Doesn't work
Web - Shortcut to 360 login page
360 Updates - An app to update all the apps above

These apps can not be removed.

The default Music app is also modified to add a link to the Music Shop (which doesn't work).

Its already been said that Vodafone have been very sneaky indeed by slipping this update in at a time when most users are regularly checking for the FroYo update.

Only the day before yesterday I checked for updates and there was nothing and I decided to debrand yesterday. Had I checked again before debranding I would have definitely installed the update and been stuck.

I wouldn't be surprised if Vodafone make things like tethering chargeable on their version of Froyo eg

The point i'm trying to make is, people thought they had generic firmware because there was no VF branding on their handsets/firmware, i already know that generic firmware will ony ever be updated to none branded generic firmware and this is what people thought they had, yes, maybe i should have worded that post a bit differently, but i didn't, sorry, but my point still stands as these people seemed to have none branded phones before they updated their firmware.

Well after my monstrous rant lastnight (again, muchos apologies for that) I debranded this morning, all went very well, but instead of that stupid piece of crap Vodasham update, I'm now getting nothing, no 2.2 update, I'm certain I'm debranded, no voda scene or anything such as the like, I'm sure I read yesterday somewhere on here that the update has been pulled? is that right? hope its sorted soon, really feel for all the people that downloaded that bullshit update, just glad I checked here first, this is just a nightmare for everyone involved.

i have a VF desire. unbranded and unlocked. no splashscreen, no logo, no menus, no bookmarks, no apps.

however, when i click menu > scenes i can see a VF option indicating carrier firmware which is confirm by a quick software check.

unfortunately nowadays, the onus is on the consumer to look before they leap.

it did it this morning. it's simple, it worked for me and now i'm all 102.2% FroYo-ed up (can you see what i did there?)

I've turned off the update notification and will wait for the web to report the arrival of 2.2

I just hope I can get 2.2 without first having to naff up my phone with the VF adware

A post on the VF forum says that a fix is underway that will remove (or enable the removal) of this update.

We'll see if it's true or not, but hopefully it is. If it, then a pat on the back to everyone that kicked up about this.

    fingers crossed...

An update on the "fix" that VF were looking at.

Well the "fix" appears to be that all of this guff will appear in their 2.2 release, so if you ignore the current update you'll get it all anyway when they wheel out their "customised to provide you with a better experience" version of FroYo

    Fan-bloody-tastic.

Totally out of order for Voda to release this while the whole community of Desire owners are waiting of Froyo.

If we had 2.2 and could install apps to SD it wouldn't be so bad but to throw a load of S**T on everyone's phone that takes up internal memory is a P**S take!

Message the CEO of Vodafone on the link here and have a rant if you're a bit annoyed. Apparently someone will respond by way of a phone call - still haven't had my call yet though.... I don't think i'll stay up waiting tonight! :)
