So i rooted my eris back in like - march. with the "eris21official" rom from grdlock right after he posted the scripts. worked fine...had a few bugs but i dealt with them. now that there's a lot more selection i found one i want to use...thats when i find this issue:

i boot into system recovery - and can't move. the highlight bar just sits on "reboot" and nothing will move it. pressing the trackball button will select it and reboot the phone...and pressing Vol-up and Vol-down at the same time will select it. but nothing else responds to button presses.

    any idea whats up? thanks

    definitely tried that...

the only inputs that work are the two i described...i've tried these:
trackball - up, down, left, right
    send
    end
    vol-up, vol-down

these worked (to select what was highlighted - reboot):
    vol-up and vol-down
    pushing the trackball button

another tid-bit of information.....you know that slight bumpy feeling when you roll the trackball? that happens for right, left, and up...but down it's much more subtle and smooth................damn it. going to check in OS if down works - probably will though.

ok, it's the trackball....apparently it's a hardware issue...gotta get it replaced by warranty....
