Root Odin (Return phone to Stock/Factory)

First, THANKS so much for contribution. What you've provided here is so valuable to the community.

I am trying to make an image that is indistinguishable from a phone that has never been rooted, and never been updated, based on ED13, i want to delete any files that rooting copies to that phone, restore any files it changes or deletes, change all file and folder dates to the the date they are suppose to be, I want this image to be a virgin
I want this image to be able to be Rooted again and that is where I am having a problem

Thes are the changes I made so far

uninstalled efs file explorer
uninstalled advanced task killer
did a factory reset
wipe cach
dump data and system rfs files and edited with the following changes using Magic ISO

data.rfs
propert\persist.service.adb.enable edited to 0
dalvik-cache\system@app@Superuser.apk@classes.dex delete
system\packages.xml edit removed superuser info
system\usagestats\usage-20110716 delete
system\app_iq_archive\COV48Y3W delete
system\throttle\-2061808236 delete
system\dropbox\event_data@1310847641809.txt delete
backup\pending\journal53636.tmp delete

system.rfs
bin\su delete
app\Superuser.apk delete
xbins\ deleted entire folder
When i generate an image with these changes made, the phone seems to work fine, but all the linux commands do not work when you run adb shell even if you just try to run adb shell ls
you get this
$ ls
ls

I don't know if you already knew, or if it will be any use at all, but I did want to mention something. I rooted my phone as soon as I got it and did not do a system update in fear it would prevent me from being able to root it. After rooting it and being annoyed by the updated message for several days, I decided to go ahead and do the stinkin' update. Upon updating, nothing was damaged or changed in any bad way, but interestingly enough I lost root. Maybe you could somehow use this OTA update to your advantage when making an unrooted stock image.[/QU

Do this if you can root again . I don't think your phone will allow it if you updated while rooted . Ya might wanna try it anyways and good luck .

There are a few ways to disable the update notification . I use Autostarts . Once the phone was rooted , I opened Autostarts , tapped the second one down "After Startup" , scrolled down to Google Service Framework" of which there are 4 . Tap on the 3rd one down , it should say com.google.android.gsf.update SystemUpdatesService$Receiver . Tap it and a screen will come up asking what you want to do . Disable it . When SuperUser ask want you want to do , tap ALLOW . You will have no more bothersome update notifications ! :D

Thanks a lot for the tip, this is very helpful information.

I suppose I should have mentioned that I was able to root the phone a second time without any issues so it's all good. I'm now running shabbymod 0.9 loaded and couldn't be happier :D

If I'm not mistaken , one of the updates will forces you back to the stock version and not let you root again  . I Believe this was posted earlier in this thread . Ya might wanna read up on it just in case .

I posted this in another forum under a different nick, but thought I'd try here as well as it seems more active...

I recently got this prevail from craigslist and wanted to root it but I can't get it to work. It looks like the reason it won't root is because it appears that the ota update was installed which seemed to make it unrootable. Funny thing is I see that it has Superuser installed so I guess it was once rooted and then the ota update was applied? I can't su in terminal on phone or through adb, and root apps don't seem to be able to get root.

So I was hoping that this odin thing would do the trick, but I can't get that to work either. If you want to see my postings on the other forum it's at acsyndicate . Basically where it left off with odin was the following:

Code:
Download Start...
<0> Create File...
<1> StartThread Detected : 1
<2> StartThread Detected : 0
<3> StartThread Detected : 0
<4> StartThread Detected : 0
<5> StartThread Detected : 0
<6> StartThread Detected : 0
<7> StartThread Detected : 0
<8> StartThread Detected : 0
<1> setup connection...
<1> odin mode.. check plcatform verification.
<1> VerifyPlatform:V76, P73,R16710

I left it like that for over an hour with no further progress. Any ideas of things to try to get
this phone rooted? I tried the root method on the previously linked forum and I tried
shabbymod (0.9 I think) before I tried odin.

Did you get your EE14 from the update that interdpth provided or from the ota upgrade that the phone bothers you about?

I can't be sure, but it looks like the person that had the phone before me did the ota upgrade while the interdpth one was supposed to preserve the ability to root.

If yours was the ota update Topken, I'll certainly give it another shot when I can.

I had to use a friends computer to try to odin the phone as I don't use windows (freebsd at the moment). Right now I'm re-partitioning my drive so I can install Windows on it to experiment more with the odin stuff.

The computer I used never had odin on it before or never flashed a phone before. It was windows xp 32 bit and I installed the drivers that were in the hroark13 zip file. I believe I did it correctly. If you look at the image I uploaded on imgur I think you can see if I did it right or not. I put the ops in the ops spot, boot on boot, phone on phone, pda on pda. Of course I have no idea what was done to the phone before I got it.

When it got stuck on VerifyPlatform the square that is red and says reset in the screenshot was just white.

@Topken, I don't remember if I tried to root on a fresh boot. After I get windows going I may try that again and if it errors I'll post back; this won't be for quite awhile though because I'm partioning a 1 tb hard drive and it's taking forever to move around all that data. Maybe I'll try using the linux script on a live cd or something if I can get adb working that way. Or I know freebsd has a linux binary compatability thing or something that I might try.

Have some good things to try once my pc is fully back up and running :-D

If the phone is still functioning, test the USB port on it, put an SD card in it and try to copy to and from your computer

I got my phone and rooted, and then removed some of the bloatware a while back. Otherwise it is stock. So, when the update message came up I tried to update, and it would not complete the process because I had removed some of the original files. I got tired of the update nag messages and not being able to do anything about it so I change the build.prop to shabby's. If I use odin, will I then get the update message, and then be again able to update to EE14? And BTW, why is the odin Ed13 instead of EE14? Just curious?

the phone had ED13 an i did not allow it to take an upade before I made the image
Shabby is making an EE14 factory image and I am making an ED13 factory image, just so people have options.

if you flash my images you will be asked to update, i am not sure about shabbys

I made a Stock version of ED13

I edited the OP with the download link

When you first boot it is in Airplane mode, and Unknown Sources is enabled, you can just change these settings your self, or do a factory reset and cache wipe.

After I flashed this I tested running the KMS script and it was able to be rooted just fine, and I was able to install apk files with no problems

If anybody can think of anything I missed on this, please let me know

change log
uninstalled efs file exploere
uninstalled advanced task killer
did a factory reset
dump data and system rfs files and edited with the following changes

I don't know why but the above output code won't display correctly here. Put up on pastebin though for easier reading.

It's late so I'll have to get to the odin stuff after much sleep, but thought I'd give those a shot and post the results.

Im having problems with my wifi for some reason it connects and it drops i restarted my cable modem and still the same problem. Can someone else try and see if they having the same issues

Sounds like your phone may be going to sleep . Try the Stay Awake Gadget and plug your phone in to the wall or USB .

EDIT: I jumped the gun . This will solve the problem with WiFi tethering .

You can root EE14. I updated my phone then rooted it then installed shabbysmod 0.8 then updated to 0.9 with no issues at all. Currently waiting to see if shabby can make a gingerbread rom for us.

Seconded, I did this too

If I'm not mistaken , one of the updates will forces you back to the stock version and not let you root again  . I Believe this was posted earlier in this thread . Ya might wanna read up on it just in case .

First part is true, it does remove root (but no applications, i did still have superuser on the phone). The second though is false, I was able to re-root without issues. At first I did have trouble but it was due to defective USB ports on my PC (if you hear the usb constantly plug/unplug you might be having the same issue, but I've known about my USB ports being jacked up for a while now). I used my wife's PC and it worked first try. Don't know how much it matters, but when rooting I ran the batch file as soon as I saw the samsung logo while the phone was booting. I recalled having trouble if I waited too long last time I rooted.

Okay, my partitions are finally done being created and moved around and I did a attempt at running shabbymod. It failed and the following is the output from that:

Before you try shabbymod you need to run interdepths one click root.
I thought that you didnt need to run both but I have since heard that you need to be rooted before you try shabbymod.
