FYI, the Moto X and Droid Maxx are both $449.99 off contract right now through VZNs website. This is down from $499.99 for both the last time I looked.

Maybe one silver lining of the Edge program will be more realistic pricing for off contract phones...

If the price reduction is because of Edge, I wouldn't be surprised if the difference is offset by the fact you have to trade in your old phone to get a new one. They would refurbish it and sell it, likely making more money.

No, what I mean by that is now that they are "renting" phones out via Edge, they need to keep the price competitive as new phones come out.

Until recently the off contract price of a phone was the same when it was 2 years old as it was on day 1. I think the Moto X and Droid Maxx were both $600 or more when the first were released. Buying at full price doesn't require you to trade in your old phone.

The cost of the phones won't go down. However the price of the plans should go down. Like t-mobile does. Now AT&T is offering a cheaper plans, 15 dollars off if you buy the phone off contract. $15 isn't that much but that's what eliminating the carrier subsidies should bring, Less money for the plans, not less for the phones themselves.
