Looks like the Droid X will be a better phone after 2.2 update. Why is it one of the last phones on the block to get the update. Is it a Big Red thing?

These are the ones I'm looking forward to. To be honest, I'm not really that excited about Froyo - it seems like a pretty minor update, and hopefully will not cause more problems/bugs. More importantly to me is whether we will get Gingerbread in a timely manner after it's released! Of course, by that time, I'll probably be upgrading to another phone anyway, hehe.

Even when google announced it they said it would be a carrier by carrier choice to enable it. And we all should have known then that they would disable it so they could sell their own service.

The article you posted was specifically for the original Droid, not the Droid X. They say it's because the hardware doesn't support it, blah blah blah. The Droid X will always have tethering, but no, you will not get it for free unless you root and use one of the WIFI tethering apps.

Same thing on Sprint, though. You have to pay for the Hotspot service unless you root and/or use other roms. You can pretty much expect all carrier Android phones coming out from now on will have tethering available, but only through their paid service (unless you hack). We might not like it, but it's no different than charging large amounts of money for text messaging when it only uses a minuscule amount of data. They are trying to protect their business model.

It's been out barely three weeks. And one update has already been sent. Relax.

I hope so, I just manually updated my daughter's Droid to 2.2 today. The sooner the better, even though I will probably wait to upgrade my X until we can root 2.2, but the sooner it's released the sooner we will get root.

They are still saying "late summer" for the X, which means most likely September. I'm sure they want to push the Droid 2 over the next few weeks, and launching with 2.2 is a major selling point. They've already got us early Droid X adopters. August would be nice, though!

Bottom line, the Droid was OVERDUE for froyo. Im glad they got it, and now its our turn.
