Rooting a DInc is so easy, I was intimidated at first but with Unr3voked it's seriously like "download this, click this, wait..."

I agree with this. I've never owned a phone with Sense but I've played with my friends older phones that had it. Sense on the Rezound seems light years ahead of that. I've played with it at the store for probably 30 minutes and it didn't seem like it lagged at all. Very fast.

The new browser, calendar and news app they've improved until they're useless, imo.

I've replaced all three and that helped a lot.

The browser is core leaking - like most webkit browsers we're stuck with - just theirs is especially egregious. :(

Can't say I know if the app drawer issue you report was related to that or if the Rezound is short a service update.

    Or if it's carrier bloatware.

The 3D was getting a lag reputation as well as a call sound quality rep until we traced it to a carrier bloatware app stepping on the phone's audio memory space.

Sad how much bloatware can ruin a decent phone. Number one case for the Nexus, imo.

I can dig it. In most places I found the Vigor to be impressive, but screams? The carousel is FAST. swiping is a sight. Browser...when comparing on wifi to my DInc 2, just barely finished ahead it. As I said in another post...laggy in the Market...not necessarily because of Sense, but maybe background Sense. Again, not really trying to start anything here. Blue Biker asked me what the deal breakers were. Your post is impressively informed. :)

Yup, same here. Felt like I had to change my pants when I ran it as I thought I had bricked it for some strange reason. Then after it booted back up without a hitch, my heart starting beating again and I came to my senses.

    It was super easy.

App drawer uses pagination when scrolling up and down. Even though this is a "feature" to thwart overscroll, it gives the appearance and feeling of lag.

I did the same thing! Although it took me two tries to love cm7 I haven't looked back since the latest flash.

    Fixed it.

But it truly is probably one of the easiest processes I've ever had to follow.

Speaking of the Jetstream, does anyone know how well/badly that sold? I haven't heard much about it at all, but considering it was $799 (I think?) on contract, I'm sure not many people snatched it up...

Thunderbolt GB update had that too. I wasn't a huge fan of it TBH.

Slightly OT: I was playing with my dad's Droid 3 the other day and noticed a LOT of customizations to the OS that added ICS-like functionality, like removing individual notifications, resizable widgets, etc.
I found this interesting and thought I should share it :p

You can brick the DInc if your cat (insert other domesticated mammal or reptile if you don't have a cat) runs by and knocks the USB cord loose while you wait, and that is not a guaranteed brick.

Or you can brick the DInc if you interrupt a radio flash.

Only ways I have ever heard, FWIW.

Doh! Yeah I kinda missed the obvious. I'd like to try a plain ICS phone too.

Hmmmmmm, I don't know what to say. I don't care if it's still occupying partition space, but a CPU/RAM hog is a different story.

I'd have held out for Nexus if finances didn't dictate otherwise. But what's another month or two waiting for it to be released?

    (I kid, I kid)

Yeah, we listen to that w/Beats: Perfect for Halloween!

I sure hope you're right! Planning to try it as shipped for a week or two to see if Sense grows on me.

Sorry - yeah - I don't intend to mislead, but I often do paint the rose the wrong shade of red without qualifying my remarks. :(

I keep forgetting that I've had time to remove bloatware and customize my apps until the bottlenecks disappear. That makes a Sense phone today go from fast to scream, scout's honor.

That is a weakness of Android - tuning it all up. Every new phone I've had has proven to be an exercise in tuning things to not get apps colliding with or poorly interacting with each other. The Sense promise is that it comes ready to run for everyone - for those of us interested in top performance possible, that's not true. For the regular, non-obsessed user, it is.

I've had the same issues with pure Android before - so I'm looking to see what ICS brings - to the Nexus, to all. The reason we're all here is the OS - the cool hardware just lets it happen. That's how I look at it anyway. ;)

    Thanks for the info.

I've always liked some of the Sense extras. Think it was by far the best looking skin out there. Seems like ICS has really made strides to not be considered vanilla anymore.

Anyone who is trying to come from another carrier, I was able to purchase a 4G phone from Verizon and have them postdate the activation until January so that I am grandfathered into the double data plan. Obviously I had to pay for the phone a little early but I am able to continue using my AT&T line until the Nexus actually drops with no risk of missing the double data promotion.

I agree on that. But wouldn't ICS + Sense be even bigger than stock ICS?

The HTC Ville leaked today with S4 snapdragon looks very interesting, but I'm worried that Sense in ICS might offset the speed/battery advantage that S4 brings.

What is the longest that Verizon has left accessories in a store before releasing the phone? The GNex accessories have been in some stores for several weeks now. Release the GNex!

My gut tells me, Monday announcement with a release of Thursday December 1.

Edit: I was the first person in the history of android forums to reach the 49,197 post mark on any thread!

Indeed. I have gotten better at fine tuning CyanogenMod now a year into using it and in turn it is faster.

I have been lurking and watching this thread for a while now so I decided to dip a toe in and check out the water. I would like to present a new take on all the waiting we have been going through for the last month or so. I have been having Deja Vu feeling and I finally figured it out.....

Does anyone remember when you were kids how long Christmas eve night was? It seemed like for ever before you had to go to bed and then you would just lie there trying to get to sleep so morning would come faster and you could get all your toys finally? WELL, this is like that for adults. Here we are waiting, agonizing over our new toy...can't wait to get our hands on it but have to wait for it.

This is taking delaying gratification to a new level. Hope this makes your wait a little more fun. :p
