For the record, I'm not saying Thursday is a pipe dream. I'm 60/40 on the side of release for Thursday, and I'm holding onto my day off. Still, I think a lot of us are like that poor abused dog that flinches whenever someone wants to pet him. Is Verizon going to stroke our ears or pull and twist them? Who the frak knows. Best to keep your expectations low. Less disappointment that way.
Yikes, we're almost at 81000 already! Anyway, link compilation over at Android and Me, they'll be updating it with new info until the launch: Verizon Galaxy Nexus watch, 48 hours and counting? | Android and Me
At least they are aware as to the backlash against this phone coming out, and people internally are upset with it. Not that it helps, but it makes me feel less alone. Their social media strategy is horrific. There are people bashing them status after status on facebook, bombarding their support team on twitter with questions, and yet they refuse to acknowledge that the phone exists. Even just a quick post on facebook would suffice in quieting the crowd - I think at this point we're just asking for an update, although a release date would be great. Just terrible management, they really need to rethink even having social media pages if all they are going to do is post their "news", and not be, you know, social.
I'm betting pretty strongly on Thursday at this point. Take a look at the Bionic - Verizon said it'd be out during "summer", and released it a little over 2 weeks prior to the end of summer. In this case they said by the end of the year, and Thursday will make a little over 2 weeks prior to the end of the year. I also don't expect us to get anything official until tomorrow. With the Bionic they announced on the 7th, released on the 8th. Or I could be completely wrong and they'll release it on 12/12/12 at 12:12 instead.
Well that's a good sign. Here's hoping to it being true and more corroboration from other stores. Then I'll have the warm fuzzies again.
I bet if Baby Blues was in that same scenario the outcome would be totally different. just my opinion.
Just got an update from the manager at the retail store I'm picking my GN at. He got the email from the district manager that the 15th is good to go. As always take your bucket of NaCl and lets hope for the best here so we can all get the hell out of this forum.
Yes, major news outlets did. The Wall Street Journal, NBC, CNET, The Washington Post and more reported that the Nexus would be $299 on contract and would be releasing on December 9th. In addition, all the major tech outlets such as TechCrunch, Engadget etc. picked up on it where they haven't risked it yet over the 15th date because there isn't any solid evidence. I agree that the Nexus is generally a phone that is geared to the tech community, but it definitely was picked up by major news outlets last week and made Verizon look foolish. I think they just don't want another "Here it comes" situation to have to be rectified with an "Maybe next week" explanation again.
I don't think anyone doubts what The Source or Cheetoes (whatever Han's source is called these days) says. They are giving the best information they've heard. The problem is almost as soon as we get it, it's changed. Also, after getting beaten down by Verizon I think people have grown a thicker skin and resign to the worst information available. When Google started the 10 day contest, nobody thought it would end before the phone came out. It did. Same with every milestone we've been exposed to. People get numb when they get crash due to bad news after getting good news. The launch has been tainted and I'll admit we did a lot of this ourselves. So when the source or Cheetoes says it's a particular date, we can easily believe it's really the next date we hear because historically Verizon apparently has kept moving it.
sooo...I apologize for the newbie question here, even though I've been following this thread and phone a good month prior to the original expected launch date Everyone keeps talking about the Nexus' software buttons and the lack of hardware buttons on the phone. My confusion comes from the fact that there are three buttons under the screen. Having the original Droid, I don't understand what is different here from what I am currently using...(how is this a big improvement to previous designs). Spoiler
15th is looking very very good to me now, folks. Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Verizon listed in store merchandising placement for December 15 | Droid Dog
Hey been out the loop for a while...had a new niece born into the fam! Is there a new date besides the 15th?
No better way to start off the morning with a bacon, egg white and cheese sandwich with SPK and some hot chocolate. Nexus, what nexus?!
Well I texted Cheetara about this whole delay (again) rumor. She texted back: I texted: She texted back: So there's the whole 4G excuse again.
Um, i have a question, if it does indeed come out the 15th w/o a PR or anything then WTF was the point of signing up for the galaxy nexus verizon email for updates on the release etc? hahahah such a freakin joke of a release
From what I'm hearing it wasn't 4G related at all unless the bugfix pushed out contained a change to the radio in some way. Delay from 9th was definitely a bugfix.
Data farming and sending you annoying promotional e-mails! Oh and sending you a notice a week after the phone has been released.
They did the same thing with the Bionic. I had signed up for the emails when the site first went live, but read here about the release before I got any email about it.
The droid buttons aren't part of the screen. The Nexus buttons are a part of the screen, and they can hide when you play a movie, making the screen bigger.
