Forgive my simple question, but how do you tell from that screenshot how long the screen has been on? This will be my first android phone, and while I have used my wife's (she was due for an upgrade while I had to wait), I'm not really that familiar with reading that screen. Is the battery life bad according to the screenshot?

EDIT: I understand that it is the screen that is draining the battery, but I don't understand how that shows how much the screen has been on since 100% charge.

EDIT again: ok disregard my question. I think someone posted in their response just one screenshot that I saw, and I have since realized there are other screenshots that make my question moot. Sorry.

Giving myself a 4 as today ends. No announcement or a peep from Verizon doesn't really give me a good feeling about tomorrow either. But anything is possible with this release.

Battery life on 4G devices is typically horrendous. If you switch over to 3G only or use Wifi when available it will extend battery life by a great deal. When I had the Rezound it was getting only 3 or 4 hours in 4G all the time. When I started forcing it to 3G when in a bad 4G area or staying on Wifi at home then the battery would last me almost 14 or 15 hours with moderate to high use.

Can someone please tell me if you need to supply account information when calling *611? I have some free time right now, but I don't have my account information with me =/

I would preorder it even the release was thursday just in case i can't get to the store in the morning and it sells out.

One thing i would taking into consideration is there may be people trying to buy the phone on contract ( that don't really want it, but see the upgrade as a chance to make some money) and then selling it on ebay or craigslist for high prices.

Personally I think the phone has been hyped up enough (without a single verizon ad) that the above may actually happen, so I'd be extremely pissed off if they actually did the release the phone after all this waiting and i couldn't get one.

If that battery life is even close to being indicative of what people get, you won't be alone. :(

AFAIK they will just ask for your account password. Failing that, the last 4 of the SSN of the primary account holder should do.

See the thing is if I buy a 4g phone I want to use 4g though. If I turn off 4g all the time what's the point?

I like the screen and the size / shape of the phone. Would still be my choice of the big 3 phones on VZW. I don't want hardware buttons that are now obsolete.

    GO PACK!

    Thank you!

And if anyone cares, I talked to my local sales rep, and he told me that he'd "secretly" sell the nexus if it wouldn't come out on the 15th.

    :)

Yes. In fact, a corporate store is GENERALLY the only place to go that has a tech support area. Most third party retailers are just that: retailers.

Your phone is covered by Verizon, not the store. You're covered no matter where you go in the U.S. :)

You are probably better off waiting for the next generation of LTE radios then, which I imagine will improve dramatically.

Haven't there been other reports of battery life on the LTE nexus? I mean I remember seeing from BMX that it would average 5-6 hours with heavy usage. I assume that would have been on much older builds of ICS. I wonder what is going on with the sub 4 hour battery life seen here...

Use 4G only when you need it (streaming videos, tethering, downloads, etc...) then turn it back to 3G when you're done. I do it everyday on my Bionic and trust me, the battery life you save is worth it.

    Then get chargers?

Android phones have less than stellar battery life to begin with, add in 4G which is still new technology and you get even worse battery life...

Well unfortunately, "heavy use" is subjective. "heavy use" to one person may not be the same for another. And we don't have all the specifics of the usage patterns for both users, so it's really like comparing apples and oranges. :(

Ha! That's what I told myself when the TB and Charge were released. I bought the X2 instead opting for battery life over speed. Now I can't help but wonder how much longer it will be before 4G and battery learn to play nicely together?

I have to tell you though my Samsung Charge showed a much higher display % of use than either my current Bionic or the Rezound I had for a couple of weeks. The use was essentially the same on each phone. So it seems the Sammy may be prone to reporting a disproportionately high % for 'display'.

Thanks... saving me a lot of trouble. I'll probably hit up 34th Street in the morning on Thursday, but have my name in the hat at my local premium reseller.

Not at all. Ice Cream Sandwich and the fact that it is a Nexus is 3/4 of this phone. The only revolutionary hardware feature is the screen and I guess the ergonomics.
