The fact that they confirmed it already does more than any date could ever do... I really don't think they wanted to announce it this soon.
my thoughts exactly. i think the social media/email assault they were under might have nudged them along a bit faster than wanted
It's been announced by Verizon. Not price or release date, though. Coming "later this year"

OP updated with press release.
(Steven does the happy dance)
Yep, this forced whatever was holding up going public with Nexus into resolving. I'm still curious what it was.
I am at work, but really feel like doing a fist pump.... aaahhh, much better.
I expect to not see you post another thing in this forum for at least 6 hours so that you can watch all of the original Star Wars... preferably the original versions on vhs before Lucas decided to mess them up.
Maybe for some of you but a date would do A LOT more for me
Well, I believe the pressure worked. I have an inside source (not THE source) telling me that they are working out some issues still. Who cares? Right? We got de phone.
I think it was wise of them to put our minds at ease, at least.
I can believe this, what company puts out a press release on a Friday afternoons at 6:15pm!
Well, they had to give us SOMETHING to talk about in here right?
Their source was BGR, who got the full text (I think) of the Verizon press release.
I tried searching Verizon for that, but got instead a page telling me what to press to release my battery. Ummmm. Ok. o-O
BGR - getting the specs, getting the confirmation. (clutches chest) I'm coming, Elizabeth! (Sanford and Son reference)
a company under massive outside pressure?
Han...do the honors please
Its like the famous friday news dumps by the government, all the bad news when most people are on their way home for the weekend.
I don't think it was being held for any perfect time to announce. We'll see I guess. If it hits without even a wisper of an ad campaign there was no reason to blackout announcements they would carry it. That just wouldn't make any sense in my opinion. Who knows what was on the table yet? I guess the assault demanding info forced the demise of whatever reservations they had about admitting they would carry the device. I would like to know what reservations they had about Google and Sammy saying they would carry it??
A (redundant) word from our sponsor -
Official: Samsung Galaxy Nexus Headed to Verizon Wireless
Kind of feels good to be a part of a grass roots movement that succeeded in its objective.
No word of it being exclusive to them, not that it matters. As long as they don't make you wait until December 31st!
Huzzah! Thank the phone Gods. I am glad that all the bs can be put to rest.
A company that planned all along to not let the week end without the announcement?
Sometimes, last word out is the loudest one heard.
Plus - no time to argue or get more sauce.
Anyway - maybe.

Re: Galaxy Nexus is official for Verizon
"later this year." A press release on a Friday?Verizon is doing everything it can not to market this phone.
There's certainly some politics going on with this phone.
