I'm not hesitant, just don't have a PC available to either run windows or linux. I have an older Mac G5 (pretty fast and reliable, but won't run RSD lite...)
Last time I SBF'd, I had to scab together a pc from spare parts and it looked like a science project (even had a regular house fan on it to cool it since I didn't have a case to put it in, lol). Reluctant? No... Lazy? You bet! :p

In all of the excitement yesterday I grabbed a copy of the non-rooted OTA GB file from a site that said he would never shut down (revengeofthepc).

Anyway, this is a BIG file - 114375 KB. I just wanted to try to verify that I got a "legit" copy of the file.

Can anyone confirm that this is the correct size for this file?

That copy is becoming scarce because Moto/VZW are sending Seize & Desist letters to anyone who links to it. If you want to use that file and know that it is the exact original, you will need to compare the md5 checksums of each file to make sure that they match.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the pesky sync icon in the notification/activity bar without having to wipe data?

I took a look at the file (pressed "details" in Astro) and the md5 sum says a21c0cfb3d15a62842d12522e8795d99. It shows that the size is 117,120,341 bytes.

    Now what?

There isn't a way. On the first leak I didn't wipe data and had the sync icon... the second I wiped data it was gone... make a nandroid backup of what you got going on now, boot into stock recovery, wipe data... reboot all the way... then reboot into cw and wipe data/cache and then adv restore your data... see if that will do the trick for you.

I totally wiped my phone clean of everything then did a maderstock of the. 340 to go back to factory settings. Then reloaded all my crap and rooted. Am i ok to install my 3 filezs now? All the forums are saying to use a full sbf? Why does nobody mention if maderstock is ok as well?
And should we wipe data/cache or not? Hearing conflicting stories. Is it almost a given that the sync icon will not go away if a wipe is not done? Has anyone gotten the sync icon even after wiping?

no you have to sbf back or you will get a bootloader error when you finally get gb installed. just sbf , reroot, download d2 bootstrap, then install gb

Hit me up on PM with your email address and I'll try to help you get through an SBF. You'll have to go over to MDW and ask P3Droid or one of the TBH members to know why you can't use a zip but that's just a fact. You must use your computer to load the stock ROM; maderstock will have you looking at an error bootloader.

Maybe I am just skeptical of all of this. One min everyone is pissed off and screaming at P3, then all of a sudden this happens. Cant confirm it once again, but now everyone is screaming the joys of P3.

Don't get me wrong especially if you are P3, guy is a decent dev for android and I do have respect. But to be honest, this whole thing smells a little strange to me.

This topic should probably be moved to the other topic pertaining to P3Droid and his announcement but let me reiterate my feelings about the whole ordeal and what I think of him.

First, he and TBH have inroads that nobody else seems to have. That is a fact. We don't know exactly how or why, but most of our leaks and many hacks come from him and his "team". He is a talented individual. For the contributions, I'm appreciative.

Now, just because a person has access and is talented, doesn't make them an icon or even a great person. I don't personally know him aside from the twitter feeds and very little interaction on the forums. What I do know is that I feel like he created unnecessary drama and that he enjoys the drama. I'm not even sure if he meant to scare the hell out of everyone or not. Maybe he hit up on some meth that weekend. I'm not his judge on why. The point is, I think that he realized that he went a bit overboard and reeled in his over-enthusiasm for telling everybody that they are screwed. After taking a few Xanax, he must have calmed back down and he continues to release impressive stuff. Is it a trap for all of us? Maybe. That is the risk you take when you load software that you have no idea where it came from onto your phone.

If you see me saying go ask P3Droid, it's not because he's my hero, it is because he knows the answers that I don't. Got it? Out. :)

I went through the process and thought that I'd beaten the evil sync icon. Booted up and it was gone. Suddenly, it reappeared. Evil thing! :(

Yeah, I got that. I really gave P3 a hard time when the drama went down so I felt that I should clarify should anyone remember my rants. :)

BTW...I remember you from the humble Eris days. Good to see that you are still around.
