How long can you battery last??
I have been using it extensively (well, it is my first android phone; so can't stop touching it). It last around 7 hours... Normal or what?

Sounds similar to the EVO battery before the update. Im sure Moto will address those early issues early if this continues.

Long read, but please bare with me here.

My friend and I both were experiencing battery problems on our new droid X's, and both using a task killer. He uses an app called 'Systempanellite', I use Advanced Task Killer. Last night we decided we would try something new. I had read that due to ATK killing services on the phone, the phone wasted battery constantly rebooting them only to have them killed again the next time you use ATK. The test was to see if uninstalling atk boosted battery life. We saw positive results, and this was done before the recent update was downloaded on either of our phones.

Last night, I pulled my phone off the charger at 8:30 pm when my friend came over with his droid X. We spent 8:30 until 2:00am on both of our phones, using them nearly 90% of the time, toying with apps using gps, wifi, accelerometer, etc. he experienced results today after changing some settings in 'Systempanellite', and ignoring all auto termination of services.

Basically, the idea is to keep your services running because the phone will just try and restart them anyway.

Battery life was extremely longer lived during that high usage time! I was down to 50% by 2am, which was a 5 hour duration. MUCH better than the 7 hours I was getting at my job, doing nothing, for the two days prior.

I work at a dunkin donuts and the service inside is horrible, nor do I ever usually get to use the phone for more than a text or two. I was getting about 6 to 8 hours during an 8 hour shift after charging it at home and then off of my car charger after a 15 minute drive. The battery basically was 99.999% full when I got through the door and started work at 7am.

Today was a different story than the two before.. My battery was still at 30% by the time I left working 9 hours today, and Battery Left widget is telling me (moderate accuracy estimate) that I have until 7:39pm until it dies. That is a 12 hour 39 minute charge. I'll bet you it lasts longer than that, but we'll see soon.

I'd like to ask a few of you, tomorrow, test your phone with ATK, and the following day, test it without. Please post your results in the poll in this thread.

I'm also having a friend of mine test this ATK vs no ATK who has not yet installed the update. I'll have a result from him in 2 days with his battery after a routine work schedule.

I installed the update at about 10:00am and I have noticed a drastic increase in battery performance. I was at 80% when I did the update and after heavy 3g I 8 am at 50% at 6 pm. Yesterday I barely made it to 630 pm and hardly used it at all.

My phone has been unplugged and fully charged at 8:30 this morning and with moderate usage (email, texts, media) I am now at 40% and it is now 3:04pm..

I think it's best to estimate your battery life once you settle down and then just use it from day to day with normal use. Everyone's battery life will be different depending on use. If it's suitable for your needs once you start using it normally... then it's great for you.

I'm sorry but I'm having a hard time following what you did to preserve battery life here?Did you just NOT use ATK? Or did you use another app to change settings? That was a lot of reading for such a small point. And I'm a reader!I read somewhere today that constantly using ATK does kill battery because sometimes your not killing actual apps but things the android system has open but not running. So when those things get hard killed they have to restart resulting in more hardware uses leading to battery drain.I am interested in your point. Thanks to your post I'm going to stop using ATK but I need to know if you changed anything else.

Yeah, I got my EVO on the 4 of july and the battery has been pretty spectacular(compared to my old Moto CLiQ and Iphone). The OTA purportedly fixed some really bad battery life issues.

Light usage I can get about a day and a half
Medium I can get about 17 hours
Heavy usage I am getting about 12 hours

Im sure this is the same with the Droid X.

Get a car charge and an extra micro usb cable for you work computer and enjoy your 4.3 inches of screen real estate.

I agree with Kaoss that you need to clarify exactly what you're saying. Also, once you've clarified, I think some members of the community should work on trying to verify whether or not your changes do indeed improve battery life.

    hehe, i dont use atk.

personally, i believe atk tries to kill processes that android must have open. android then tries to open them and store them to cache again. atk kills it, android opens...etc.

I think thats what kills the phone. the constant loop. i have not verified this or tested it in anyway though...

sorry it was unclear, i was in a rush.. reading it again, needs some fixing..

Yea, basically the point was, I didnt use ATK and my battery lasted longer. I'll be using ATK again tomorrow to see if my battery shortens again. Nothing else was changed..

+1 I think task killers are bad IMO. Android is made to kill task automatically. Has always worked good for me not using one.

Getting good battery life compared to my droid 1, which really impresses me given everything is bigger on this phone.

Title says it all. Before the update I could expect 10 to 10.5 hours. Today I've been unplugged for 10 hours and its at 50%

I enjoy using the phone w/o worrying about killing or closing aps, I can get obsessed over what's running in the background otherwise. I've also noticed better battery life not using them. There are great articles regarding the android platform and how applications are processed. However, I still have both ATK and System Panel in case I desire to use their functions.

    i agree.

However mine has gotten better with the more charges since the day i got it. I read in another post too where people where seeing a much better battery life on about the fourth or fifth day. Which makes sense really.

Fully charged at 6am, 50% at 9:30pm. I would call today normal usage for me.
