In no rush myself (actually got my Gmail account back when it was invite only as well ) but will be fun to play around with when I do.

In the interim while we wait, you may find
"Blue Mail" from the Play Store an interesting option.

I have Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook and other mail accounts all being handled by Blue Mail and find it does push very well. I also like it's UI a lot. Free without ads it's ideal for my purposes.

I submitted a request to inbox@google.com as soon as the blog post was made announcing Inbox (around 12:30PM Central on Wednesday):

I received my invite from Google last night. It doesn't look like I have any invites to pass on, but at least it's encouraging to know that they're working quickly to get invites sent out.

The invite option isn't active yet. I've looked everywhere in the app and on my laptop. I will let you know as soon as they activate it.

If you have them available (and I don't think the recent invitees have them yet), they'll show up as an option under the floating "Create" (+) button between Compose and Reminders. :thumbup:
