Official Update Discussion thread
Only samsung knows the actual date.
Yeah, well they told my friend it was the 20th...straight from tech support. Told him not to hold his breath, but here I am falling for the "update check". I guess what he was told along with all the internet chatter about the 20th just sucked me in.
Epic fail...trusting the "man"...doesn't care. He's got my money for the phone, and he's on to the next thing.
I think I'm the only person who has had no issues with my GPS. Works perfectly for me....
some people need a life so they don't need to wait for a phone updated like a essential thing in their life's
I'd stomp on the damn thing and send them the pieces. That'll teach Samsung a lesson. If you can't trust their tech support wizards, who can you trust?
Hehe, its like waiting for the end of the world. It wont come today, tomorrow and I would actually be very surprised to see it this month. Samsung is notorious for piss poor post.sale support. If it comes at all, I would put it some time in October.
I would love to be wrong, but I have little faith in Samsung. This will be.my last Samsung product. I really hope that when upgrade.time.comes along, moto or htc will have a great android phone on att.
Maybe they meant September 20, 2011. They didn't say which year.
Saw this posted at XDA. This looks official.

Sadly enough, no mention of any type of GPS fixes...smh.
Cool. I'll take what I can get.
2.2 come on waiting tooo long LOL
i dont see the big deal with the 2.2 update (correct me if i'm wrong though lol). As far as I know, it really doesnt add or change too much. I know the compiler is more efficient but other than that, what does 2.2 really change?
If your looking for a GPS fix, this one worked well for me:
[Mod/Hack] A possible GPS fix, note may not work for everyone - xda-developers
Well the ability to install app on to sd card is a nice function, i am interested to see the voice integration as well in froyo
The next milestone is EU getting Froyo on the 23rd of the month, given the track record we've seen so far, I'll bet they'll miss that too. I hope Samsung realizes how bad this is for their image and user community.
Beginning to sound like the GPS won't be fixed. Those other thigns have been noted, if I recollect correctly, in the leaked ROMS, so no surprises, other than no GPS fix. Yes, still a few days left in September, but It would be a bit surprising to see a fix come out now, and then again in a few days.
Good stuff coming, but I need the GPS.
Regarding the referenced fix above, I've seen as many people it doesn't work for as those it does work for.
Anyone get the download as ota or successful force request?
No I tried and got an error that I couldn't connect.
"No Updates" here.
That firmware has already been leaked and does have GPS improvements in it for reports I have read.
Why is everyone so negative in the forum? What dates has Samsung missed?
Now you've done it. You've opened the flood gates. Naysayers unite!
BTW, I suggest a correction from "is everyone" to "are a select few."
Just to confuse you all more. This is the text of a chat I just completed with Support:
You are now chatting with 'Dan'
Dan: Hi, thanks for reaching out to Samsung tech support. How can I help you today?
Visitor: There are rumors about an OTA update pushing this week. Are they true and will this fix the GPS issue?
Visitor: Captivate 1897
Dan: I understand that you need to information about GPS fix
Dan: Yes we will have GPS update released by end of September
Visitor: Is there a push of a new version of the firmware this week?
Dan: I am sorry we do not have information about Firm ware.
Visitor: OK so that is just a rumor?
Dan: Gps update will be released.
Dan: But we do not have information about firmware
Are you two rooted?
Unrooted here, no error, but no update either.
I just checked, no updates here. Will have to wait 24 hours for another check. Also, in those AT&T instructions, why is SIMM removal required?
I hope they also include a fix to enable the Media Hub, just like they are doing for the Epic.
