Help on/off button wont go

I have a HTC Desire and until today I also was very impressed as I had a HTC Touch prior. Yesterday my battery went flat.After I put it on charge I could not get the the phone to boot up. It comes up with the telstra logo but thats as far as it goes. The on/off button does not seem to register. I've removed the batterry, sim and sd card and it still wont boot up. Hope I can get some advice before I lose my fone for another week. Cruizin
