It is absolutely ridiculous that the eris can't play 95% of the online videos I want to watch.

Is youtube seriously it? WTF!? No fox.com, NBC, adult swim, comedy central?

I had a Motorola flip phone that could play almost any video, including from the above sites. I thought I was upgrading when I bought the eris.
    Am I missing something?

Wait another month or 2 and you will have all the video watching avaliable to you. Gotta wait til flash player 10.1 is released for Android, and then need to wait til 2.x is avaliable for our phones.

youtube is mp4 video..there are a couple 3gs and mp4 video sites on the web, but you have to search for them...you are wanting to watch flash and as was said that won't be out until "Mid 2010" whatever that means.

You really have to read the capabilities of your phone [purchases] before making a choice on what to buy. Also, that moto flip you had likely had a program and service that specifically played formatted video for your phone. Hardly a capability on such a small screen. One must be patient, or read the fine print before buying. Before you buy next time, come here, research and asl lots of questions.

Please! Who is really that patient?

    Seriously, though.
I went to Verizon to get a new phone THAT day.
Needed it on the spot and no time to research.

    Total splurge buy.

BTW, I don't remember the model of flip phone, but it was ATT and though the picture was small, quality was great and super fast load.

My point being that this eris is supposed to be so great and can't even perform SIMPLE functions like playing more than one type of video.

I guess I am that patient....

I don't like the fact that the Eris has a YouTube app, but is very limited as to which videos I can actually watch. Then again, I have a netbook, notebook, "portable" entertaiment notebook, and a desktop that i can use for YouTube.

My Eris works great for GPS location, quick check/update of Facebook, and any number of other things the 1000's of Apps allow me to do. No going to get too overly upset that I can't get to one particular site and it's content.

Every phone has different capabilities. There is no. Phone that can do everything. Don't blame the Erie because you had no time to research before your purchase

agreed, i was very suprised to find that my moto droid and my parents heros didn't even come w/ flash lite. i came over from an omnia and loved the fact that there were not a whole lot of video sites i couldn't use. i just assumed android would have had this thing licked before i made the jump. i am really interested to see what the TRUE capabilities of flash 10.1 will be on android....

Omg! Turn the flame throwers off!

    It was a simple query.
God forbid anyone not like the almighty eris.
    All hail android!

Hey, news flash! The eris kinda sucks!

So take it back. Nobody forced you to buy the phone. If you think it sucks, then go get something else. FYI, there are no phones on the market that have full flash capabilities. If you had bothered to look you might know this. As for flame throwers, I don't see that anyone has even turned one on yet.

BTW, there are apps that will do some of what you want. I would post some, but feel like it would be wasted effort on my part.

Newsflash! There are MANY phone models out there not because they are for looks...people prefer different phones. This one obviously isn't for you. Take it back and get the Omnia2.

    Sure thing phyllis! :)

Sorry, I got a little off topic. I was posting pissed, and that is never a good idea.

If I could take it back, I might. But, I can't. Stuck with it for 2 years.
All in all, I like the eris. Especially for the price.
I was just a bit shocked by the lack of video playback.

On top of that, it does have many, many other issues that my researching the product would not have told me.

    Back on topic maybe?
I do hope 2.1 takes care of some of the issues that I have, including online video.

Thanks to those who had something useful to contribute!

I guess I'm lucky this is my first smart phone. The point of my post was that I never went into this epecting it to replace my many PCs. I don't expect every App to act like it's full fledged counterpart.

There are going to be limitations to all of them. granted, the YouTube limitation is birdering on ridiculous. "Hey! Use YouTube! We'll even preinstall an app for you! Oh yeah, forgot to mention, it is extremely limited right now. have fun!!"

So, I do agree with you to a point. HOWEVER.. Displaying video is NOT a simple task. Even full-fledged, full-powered computers can't come up woth a format that works for everyone. So, the fact that a pocket sized phone, with some computing capabilities, is going to have a tough time of it. Definitely not a deal breaker, in my opinion.

None of the limitations I have found on my Eris so far have been deal-breakers. I just look at it as "It's a smartphone, NOT a computer. It can't possibly do everything my computer can".

And, on a personal note, if you call what happened in this thread "flamethrowers", you really need to invest in some asbestos undies right now. I have been to some forums that'd make a cage fighter crawl into a corner and cry.....

    Ha! I hear that! :)

Maybe a more universal video format is in order. There are way too many formats floating around out there.
