Anyone having tactile issues with screen protectors in place? What screen protectors do you recommend? I worked with a Hero yesterday before and after having a screen protector in place and noticed some issues with pressing icons. The screen drag and zooming seemed fine however. Are they benificial to have in place on the Hero screen? Thanks Jack
I've had my hero for only 3 days now, and I got it with the zagg invisible shield put on after purchase. I havn't had any problems with navigating the phone or selecting apps or widgets. Nor have I had any problems with typing. Everything seems just fine to me, and I feel very confident that my phone is staying protected with the shield on.
If you put it on directly after purchase, how do you have anything to compare it to?? BTW, I've been 2 weeks on & 2 weeks off with the Zagg shield & I can tell you the screen is MUCH better with it off. I dont care what Zagg claims, there's a noticable difference & a lot of "stubbornness" when navigating with the shield on the lcd. Your thumb doesnt slide as easily & its not nearly as responsive. Plus, it has a tentancy to show little tiny "rainbow blotches" on the screen after its installed (esp on a white background). I've had 2 shields so far on my Hero & both did it. The first one was awful so I took the shield back to best buy & had them do it again. This one has them too, but not as bad & im not about to take it back again to get it douched with more wetness. But for $40 ($30 for the shield, $10 for BB to apply it), it better damn well be right. IMO, Zagg's shields are a ripoff & you'd be much better off buying one of the "knock off" brands that are made out of the same material.
Who said I was comparing anything? I merely stated that I have the invisible shield put on my phone and I have no difficulty navigating or typing on the phone.
I'm having the same problem, I bought a Clear Protector(Invisible Protection for Your Device | Clear Protector) from their eBay store and am ready to e-mail them with how unsatisfied I am. My screen just looks like garbage, my phone is less than 2 weeks old!! Not to mention the protector is not cut very close to the screen leaving a portion at the top unprotected/looking sloppy.
Wow that sucks I'm actually quite happy with my invisible shield. I havnt experienced any negative effects to having it on and am still quite impressed with it and how it protects my phone.
got my hero oct 9th... no "protectors" only bareback for me and no scratches marks or blemishes - and i'm not a particularly careful guy either *shrug*
Thank you for all the feedback. I removed the screen protector for this individual and at the end of the day she was much happier with her new purchase. I have used screen protectors in the past on touch screen PDA's and not had troubles, but this was a noticeable difference in usability for me. Thanks again for the feedback! Jack
I'm using a spare Brando Workshop one for a Touch Pro. I can hardly even tell it is on. I'm using this until the release one for the Hero. shop.brando.com
I am not going to use one. This is the best (toughest) screen I've ever seen on a phone. I do find myself wiping it clean of fingerprints quite often, but because of the durability of the screen, that usually consists of me rubbing it really quickly back and forth on my pant thigh or on my shirt. This is the first phone I've seen with a screen like this! I hate to lose any of the screen's clarity with a covering.
You know what, I had the exact same mentality as you... the Hero had such a nice, oleophobic screen that I thought it would be a crime to put a screen protector on. Until... I started looking VERY closely at the screen and noticed very subtle hairline scratches! Keep in mind, these are VERY subtle, so it may not bug some people. But it bugged me, so I threw a protector on.
Could be. I have really looked mine over closey though and see nothing yet after approx a month. The one thing I do know about the screen protectors is...they do a really nice job of hiding "sins". Meaning, if you have some scratches, even significant ones, the screen protectors hide them well. So..I'll wait until I get them and then cover them up, I think.
Every phone I own gets a BoxWave Anti-Glare ClearTouch protective shield. It slightly reduces the full grandeur of the display's vivedness (but not by much), but makes it finger print resistant, anti-glare and doesn't affect the responsiveness much at all. I rather have the screen protected and not showing prints. Edit: I just got mine setup with the shield this morning, and I have to say that it is actually EASIER to use since my finger does not stick to the screen at all. It is actually a much better user experience, IMHO. Ceger
Couldn't find the Zagg for my phone (Magic) in the city that I live but was wondering around Walmart and found "WriteRight" brand of Universal Screen Protectors for 10$. Comes with 5 screens that you cut to any size and apply without the wet stuff. So far working great didn't notice a difference with the touch screen and way less fingerprints. Looks like I will have to replace the screen cover every so often because it gets tiny scratches on it, but for the piece of mind who cares.
After i bought it, day 1 release, no one near me had a screen protector. I stopped at t-mobile and bought the MyTouch screen protector. It works so well, i dont even bother with changing it. Sprint guy told me to get a screen protector that permits heat transfer since the screen is a multi-touch *shrugs shoulders*. Don't know if its true.
I love the anti-glare feel. So much easier to slide your finger on. I've got a question though...does it cover the whole screen (the black edges too) or just the touch part? Any chance you can post a pic? I had this protector for my Pre but it didn't cover the whole screen.
I bought the BODYGAURDZ brand, and am happy with it. Touch isn't affected. I had trouble putting the front piece on, and have very small spots under the film, which is actually the adhesive that didn't disappear. They can be seen when the phoneis sleeping and the background is black, but when using the phone, they don't show at all. I was tempted to take the front off (after repositioning it several times to get the adhesive spots to disappear) and use the second piece, but I'm going to wait until this piece gets all scratched up. The rest of the pieces fit very well, and I'm not concerned now with the back and corners getting scratched and nicked. I carry it in my pocket, and after several days now of pulling it in and out of my pocket, all of the pieces are still in place and not pulling away. I'm satisfied with the kit, and for $24.95 delivered for two installations, a good value.
Went to BoxWave's website but it looks like they only list the other Hero, not the sprint version - which protector did you purchase? I really prefer the anti-glare - that was the one drawback of the Zagg on my instinct. It was useless in direct sunlight.
Those 2 choices by BoxWave seem to be pretty sweet. My problem with Zagg from my previous Instinct was that it was too thick and once it was applied you really couldnt take it off and re-apply it if you didnt get it centered just right...it would stretch it out. Didnt seem to effect the touch screen responsiveness though.
