kind of odd that a mount, which just holds the phone, would have that affect...

You haven't actually used a monoprice HDMI cable with your Evo, have you?

I know this because you've linked to a mini HDMI cable, and the Evo requires a micro HDMI cable. Don't purchase from this link folks, it won't work.

Monoprice has been around quite awhile and is trusted among many people.

Retail shops will charge you out the ass with high markup. Just look at monster cables.

FYI, HDMI is a digital signal. It either works or it doesn't. So don't worry about price as long as the cord is sturdy. Gold plating, cancellation and whatever else people try to sell you doesn't matter.

I've purchased many cables from Monoprice without issue. From my home AV system to my PC to my evo. No issues at all and everything worked like it should. They've been around for a long time and are very competitively priced. Great quality at a great price.
