Hi, sorry if this info is obvious, but I can't see it...

I have a Hero on Orange contract, with 1.5 installed. Have Orange released new versions of the OS (1.6 or 2.0) which I can install and not invalidate my Orange contract, etc? And if so, where can I get it?

    Many thanks!

    No release yet.
And when they do it will be on the HTC UK Site.

Ok four months later, and I will revive this thread.

Do I have any options for updating my Hero, which is still 1.5 on Orange contract?

It's really playing up now, turns off randomly and freezes a lot, it needs something doing to it!

There's still no official update available. Take a look in the All Things Root sub-forum. You'll find many posts there about installing third-party ROMs.

Yikes. If there's nothing available now then I assume there never will be.

So yes, looks like rooting it is the way to go. Thankfully I have another phone now (was sent a Nexus as part of the Google seeding program) so can afford to take more time on it.

Actually, if you read the forum you'll find that 2.1 is still in the pipeline..... somewhere. ;)

I have found this on the HTC support site...

HTC Hero - ROM upgrade for HTC Hero (Orange)

A ROM upgrade for Orange Hero users. Now this would take me from rom version 2.73.61.5 to 2.73.61.66..... but I have no idea what it's actually going to give me.

Is this different version of Android, or what?

    Any advice appreciated.

Would be interested in this as well. I'm on orange too...but will probably wait for the 2.1 update before any others - no point doing it twice if I potentially lose stuff like saved game scores and so on..

The 2.73.xx.xx ROMs are all Android 1.5.

All the later update (iirc) did was nerf the bootloader making it impossible to gain root without the complication of making a goldcard and reflashing the .5 ROM.

    Ah.

Anyhow, I chatted on the phone to Orange tech support the other day, and they didn't really seem to care what I did in terms of upgrading. They said that I could put what I want on it, and that if I was to have a tech problem which they couldn't solve, that they'd have suggested an update anyway!

So I'll look at a full reinstall to a higher android level.

I'm on Orange and I've been told the 2.1 update will be available before the end of the month, most likely in the third week(21st-27th) I'm pretty confident that's when it'll turn up, but don't blame me if it doesn't arrive.

It is coming and it will be soon.
