I got my Galaxy few weeks ago but only tried once the Ryebrye's Blog (Android Rooting in 1-click (limited time only… until it gets patched)) with no luck...I got an error while trying to back up. I'm not an Android expert but I want the recovery image in case I mess my device while trying to update it to 1.6.

I've read tons if information on rooting and flashing and that got me really confused...I don't want to brick my phone and use it for paper weight. I'm also keen to keep the Orange GPS app which is seems to have proper navigation and updated maps (i haven't came across any useful app that does the same here in Israel.

I wonder if there is a clear way to create a recovery image from the current state of the device to use it in case things go wrong...

What about the custom ROMs like Galaxo, aren't those runing Donut 1.6? Do you have a link to a clear documentation on how to root and get recovery 4.2?

I have a Nandroid backup of the 1.5 original Orange setup, but it's of little help if you already changed the firmware of your phone. First you would have to flash the original firmware and then you can use the Nandroid backup.

My original firmware was I7500JHJA2. Does anybody have a backup of it? I want to have it in case I need to use my warranty with Orange... + I need the CSC to use the Orange 3G portal.

If anybody wants the Nandroid backup, let me know.

Use samsung FUS downloader to download exact copy of your firmware (about/phone and write down all numbers and enter them in FUS downloader)

Ok, I'm a bit confused. The tar file has the following files inside it:
    -amss
    -cache.img
    -kernel
    -recovery
    -system

Which one would be the CSC? And, why don't they have extensions (like .tar, etc.).
Aren't they supposed to be packed in .tar archives?
Can these files be used straight in ODIN?

And, last but not least, if I only flash the CSC, will everything work ok, or do I need to reformat and install everything from scratch?

    Thanks!!!

    "cache.img" is CSC file.

I can't extract it, it asks me for a password.
