I can't seem to find a solution on why I can't access files on OTG's and USB type C on my Galaxy Note 8. The device I'm connecting to my phone works with other devices including computers but when I connect it to my phone, there isnt even a notification that it was connected. I tried turning on the USB debugging in the developers option but still not working. My charging works well, so i guess its not the charging pin? PLEASE HELP!!!!

Did u rooted it or used a custom rom / kernel? If so. Concider to install stock rom again. That may be the problem then.

Note8 definitely supports USB-OTG. Maybe it just needs to be turned on in settings?

I have a stock tmobile variant note 8. Bought launch day. Stock, not rooted. Latest android software. Usb debug is not on.

I have two OTG devices that work flawlessly with the note 8. See photos. The SD card is a 16gig and its the last USB device in the files app on the phone. I’m using the stock FILES app on thr note 8.

I used the two OTG devices together in the last photo to show they can both work together and that fact that i did not have a usb thumb drive to use on the usb type B OTG device. :p

ASsuming your device is stock and in altered, OTG Weill work no problems. The issues you may face is your OTG device may not be compatible with the note 8.

Perhaps disable usb debug since im not using it.

I'm on Verizon and, as much as VZW loves crippling Samsung devices, OTG works like a charm on mine, too.

Thank you for the replies. Despite checking and trying all of the the things you guys suggested, it still doesnt work. Well I guess the only thing to do now is go to a samsung store to have it check and fix. Thank you for your replies, I really appreciate it.

post up the model OTG product you are using, so others can read up on it and perhaps offer more help.

i think your phone is fine if you can plug up the phone to a computer and it shows up as a removable storage on your computer, then the port is working and things *should* be in normal working order.

what carrier are you on and is your phone unlocked or carrier locked? is it rooted? have you had the phone long? are you familiar with android devices?

Bumping up this thread since I have the same issue and haven't posted in a quite a few years. Only thing I haven't tried is a factory reset. Will post results when I get to it.

When you say you have experienced this for quite a few years, what do you mean? The OP is referring to the Note8 and USB-C, neither of which have been around for a 'few years'.

I have an OTG jump drive, with USB on one side and USB-C on the other... and it works perfectly with the Note8. So as @marctronixx suggested, we really need the specific device you are trying to connect; which Note8 you are using (global or carrier), and what file explorer you are using. But if you prefer to skip that information and do a factory reset, that's your decision...

And have you tried a different cable? Some USB cables are wired for charging only, while others are for charging and data.

@The_Chief: Meant I haven't posted on this forum in a few years.

I ran a factory reset on the phone last week and it still did not read OTG. It charged just fine and was read by my laptop just fine.

Went to a Verizon store, showed them the issue and the set me up with a new replacement since I'm still under the one year warranty (got phone Sept '17). Really glad I went since the phone also had a couple of scuffs some burn in on the screen.

Burn in? Seriously? Wow! I thought Samsung was so confident of their screens that they warrant against burn in. I know their QLED TVs are...

FWIW I've seen store demo S8, S9 and Note8 with burned AMOLED screens. However these phones are on 24/7 at full brightness for months on end, which is not typical usage of course. In fact I did post a picture on AF once of a really burned S8 I saw in a China Mobile showroom.
