Help Other peoples service

This is something that is bothering me. I have 5 people I break with at work. 2 on Sprint. 3 on Verizon.

While the Sprint service in my area shouldnt be very strong, it is. Doing a test on video my friends videos are loading faster and playing before i can. ( espn for instance.)

The people on verizon, Always have a bar more than i do and seem to be browsing much easier than me. When we did a video comparison, It was also noticeably faster than my phone. I feel like the people in the car on that commercial!

So. What would be the reason for this?. When i am home and using by myself, i feel it is working pretty good. But when i am around others with phones, I see it is not the case. Is it from rooting and theming? Kernels, voodoo, non voodoo?

I would like to get this running better. Has anyone else tried comparisons with friends?
Is it because i am not running voodoo, and most phones are just naturally faster than the SF that arent on voodoo?

First question that I'd ask on reception is what type of phone are your VZW friends using. Could be something as simple as a better antenna or location of the antenna or even the way the user is holding the phone. I've heard in the past of the grip covering the built in antenna lowering reception. That may be a thing of the past ... dunno.
