is what now want to do. I believe i read that the cap can handle 1.2ghz quite nicley. I see TONS of different kernels. often times when searching for stuff i come up with stuff that was posted quite a while ago.

if i understand this correctly you have to have one of these custom kernels to overclock. what are you using if you are overclocked?

i understand theres some optimal combination of overclocking, and undervolting? is this something only certain kernes do?

might some roms come with some sort of overclocking deal built into them? for example i have serendip 5.5.

i fiddled this app from the app store called SetCPU that appears to be saying it can do something with overclocking but im not seeing that it does.....of course its allways possible that i dont understand fully how to use it. but it looks like that max setting ares all 1ghz to me.

reccomendations please.....especially anyone running a serendipity rom

I'm in the same situation you are, except I'm running cognition v.3.04. It looks like there may be paid applications that do it for you, but its hard to know about compatibility with different roms. Some overclock apps say"must have overclock kernel to use" but I don't know if that came in my cognition rom or not.

I've done quite a bit of searching and still don't know how to go about it. All this stuff makes me feel like an idiot. Luckilly there are sites like this one to walk us through this stuff.

I've been reading this site for quite a while, but since this is my first post, I just want to say thanks to ask the guys whose post got me this far

cognition doesnt come with an overclockable kernel. there is an app called voltage control on xda that is free and will allow you to overclock if you have a compatable kernel. i personally dont see a reason in overclocking, i have it disabled on mine, but if you do want it most roms come with the ability to overclock. design gears, the dev of cognition, made his own kernel which is in cognition and perception i believe, and he tried overclocking but didnt think it was worth it so he removed the option. well he changed from cogkernel, to firebird

Yeah I'm not a fan of overclocking, personally. There are enough random new variables and issues introduced with a custom ROM. Once you fold the possible instability from playing with overclocking (or undervolting) into the mix, things just get a lot messier.

It's just not worth it. For the small potential benefit, futzing with OC/UV is simply asking for trouble.

well, i guess that settles it pretty much. playing with my phone on the new ROM over the last couple days, its pretty freaking fast anyways so i guess why bother
