I want to partition SD card, since my sd card reader is not working I have to do it using clockworkmod. I am using HTC desire S - OFF currently running oxygen 2.3.2 and clockworkmod 5.0.2.0

I have read on the forums that partitioning SD card using clockworkmod recovery is bit dangerous for devices. There is a chance of bricking the phone. Please tell me should I do it or not?

Not dangerous, but likely to end up with misaligned partitions, which reduces speed.

Can you not mount the card over usb using the phone? Then use GParted (Minitool is worse than CWM). Or buy another card reader, as they are very cheap.

Just mount your phone as mass storage and use Gparted.

More hassle but it gets the job done properly.
