Last night I noticed my screen separation/ light leakage issue has gotten worse. Being the procrastinator that I am, my 30 days is already up, not like it would have mattered, since I purchased it from Best Buy and they are still having supply issues. I sent Sprint a nice, polite email explaining my situation, and since I have the insurance, they offered to have Assurion (sp?) replace it and they will deduct the $100 charge from my bill. Just throwing my experience out there in case it might help someone in a similar situation.

Sounds like a rip off to me?

If you have Sprint insurance, you shouldn't have to pay the deductible to replace the phone that has a manufacturing defect. You should only have to pay the deductible to replace a phone that was lost, stolen, or damaged because of something that is YOUR fault. A manufacturing defect isn't your fault.

Edited: Just realized you said they'll DEDUCT the charge from your bill. Sorry!

After 30 days you have to take it to a sprint service center and get it exchanged with a refurbished phone. Or call sprint C/S and they will send you a refurb when they have one then you send yours back. After 30 days you will no longer get a new off the shelf handset for free. I'm not sure why they told you to make a claim with Assurion because the screen separation is a mfg. defect not some sort of damage why should Assurion pay for that.

you should take it up with HTC on their website through email, ive seen posts of people claiming the light leak under the 1 year warrenty they provide

Theoretically you should be able to take it into the sprint store without paying for the Insurance deductible.

It is a manufacturing defect, not something you caused, and you are in warranty. Stand your ground.

If they pay your deductible, that means you can only do it one more time this year.... and what if your replacement evo has the same issue?

Here are some pictures showing when sprint updated their updated no hassle in-warranty policy.

I returned mine to radioshack AFTER 30 days with no problem for the same reason. Got my money back and got a shiny new white one from bestbuy :)

I've seen people get confused between warranty and insurance. Insurance covers lost, stolen or damaged phones that are not the fault of the manufacturer. It really is insurance, just like for your car. That is why there is a deductible, just like with your car insurance. Screen separation is a manufacturing defect covered by the 1 year warranty. You don't have to pay anything for that. You may get a new or refurb phone (well, same is true with insurance too).

Sorry for the delay in response, I was enjoying a much needed vacation. I was offered to go to a Sprint repair location for them to look at it and see if its covered under the manufacturer's warranty. HOWEVER, my clumsy self got the water damage sticker wet while installing ghost armor. Would I have any issues with that if I brought it to the store?

Eep, you probably will hit a wall with the water indicator being triggered - search on ebay, you can find new stickers to replace the one you triggered :)

I did that! But unfortunately, when they arrived, they are solid white..and to my knowledge HTC uses white with pink stripes. I looked all over ebay and the only ones that I could find were solid white :(

As long as you replace both the one on the bottom, and the one on the battery, you should be fine. Manufacturers switch these stickers out all the time, just tell them that's how it came. My first Evo actually didnt come with a sticker at all. When I went to return it due to bad pixels on the screen, they thought it was wierd, and thought I had set it off and just took it off to hide the evidence. I explained to them that there never was one when I first got it, and he said that happens all the time.

I started a thread related to this one but there has been no activity there so I am posting it again here...
Bought EVO June 30, so 2 more weeks for the 30 days worry-free warranty. I have never repaired, returned or exchanged any phones before, so suggestions welcomed!

EVO - Hardware 0003, Novatec screen, No device warranty. My volume buttons are a little squeaky but they function fine and work better with the EVO gel cover. The headset jack is a little unstable only when I take my headsets out. I can live with these two issues but if the problem worsens in the future will HTC cover these issues in their 1 year hardware warranty?

The main issue is the screen separation. My screen is nicely flushed except at the bottom, where it doesn't come out of the bezel but is almost on par with the bezel. When I long-press on the bottom area of the screen I hear a little click, as if it now fits in. There's a little light leakage noticed only when in completely dark room (About 2 inches left of the Home button and 1/2 inch below the Home button). Will HTC take care of this issue if it gets worse in their 1 year hardware warranty? How does the warranty work?

If I exchange the phone now, there's no guarantee that new EVO won't have any issues or screen separation, etc. Does the 30 day warranty start again after I get the new EVO as an exchange of current EVO? Since, if the new device has issues the exchange cycle will continue until fixed. My current EVO has no issues other than the 3 mentioned and I am okay with a refurbished EVO in the future as exchange.

What could I/others do to save ourselves from dealing with Sprint/HTC in case the condition of the phone worsens in the future or paying extra for something that shouldn't have been a problem in the first place? Thanks!

Geez! So does it mean that if your 2nd or 3rd phone is not satisfactory then after 30 days you will have to go for a refurbished phone if you want to exchange? So is exchanging the phone as soon as possible(within 30 days) the only way to go if you are unsatisfied and still want to exchange the phone and want a brand new one?

technically, yes. But if you call CS and get a nice rep, and explain your situation, they will give you a new one.

Wow! I am impressed. You guys are on top of the game in replying to the threads. Kudos to you guys!

Any thoughts on if I choose to wait and then get in touch with HTC(after 30 days) to get screen seperation or any other hardware related issue fixed, wouldn't HTC do it for free(1 year hardware warranty)? I am okay with them giving me a refurb phone.

maybe this will help? try calling sprint and telling them about the situation with the phone. make sure you say it has been getting worse and have them note when it started, that way it is noted on your account. then go into the best buy where you bought it, or any best buy for that matter, and show them your phone and explain what is going on and how it has been getting increasingly worse and how disappointed and unhappy you are. if they refuse to replace it, or say that it is past the 30 day period, tell them that it was a preexisting problem and that it has been noted on your sprint account.

that's what i did, but i called sprint the first week i had my phone and i made sure that it was noted in my account, that way if there are any questions or problems for a return or replacement, theres proof of the situation.

I had to get mine swapped after the 30 days was up. I got a refurb unit.

It was actually a better unit than the one it replaced..

Thanks! Good for you eieio. Did you go to Sprint or HTC to get it replaced? I am guessing you had insurance? Since I don't have insurance and don't plan to get one, I was thinking that I would have to deal with HTC. Or will Sprint give me refurb unit too after 30 days are up?

Good idea! I will call them up and ask them to note the issues in my account. I bought the EVO's from Sprint directly so would have to visit a corporate store instead. So did you get your phone exchanged for a brand new one? I am assuming you are still under 30 days warranty.

I was literally just told I can still exchange my Evo at Best Buy for a new one even though I bought it on release day. I was on Sprint chat and the rep verified that I have until 7/22/2010 and I made sure he knew that the date he gave of 6/23/2010 was the activation of a replacement. He insisted that I can still replace it for screen separation issues at Best Buy but before 7/22/2010. Does this make any sense to you guys? It sure doesn't to me, but is it worth a try?..

I had the issue, just never relized till after getting another EVO, after speaking with sprint tech support finding a local corp store/service center, walked in and they replaced the screen in approx 10mins

    (had brought mine from RS)
