Help Phone not charging via headphone adapter

On my Blackview A90 I've tried two different types of USB-C headphone adapters that include a charging port. Neither charges the phone. Does anyone have a suggestion as to why, and is there a solution?

Well, a headphone charger is meant to charge headphones, which use very little current, which is why they are not made to charge a phone

Ah, I see you misunderstand. There are USB-C adapters with two sockets: a jack for wired earphones and a USB-C socket for power pass-through. I've just bought one of these and it doesn't pass the power through. Neither did a previous one which had a different design. I was wondering why.

Those look cheap Chinese crap that don't work. Never seen an adapter like that. Nor have I heard of your phone. Off brand phones like yours will always have issues.

I love chinese people. I love to eat chinese food. So no sinophobia here. but, i have bought crappy, cheap junk that was made in china. They never work. They never last very long. There is a reason that big companies do not put a name to these items.

DO NOT BUY CHEAP chinese SD CARDS. I have been burned by them before, but never again.

I love my SAMSUNG Z Fold 4. I have been buying Samsung phones for over a decade. I will never buy a phone that is not on brand.

Off brand phones never have the same support as the named brands do........ most do not have any support. Good luck finding a firmware for your phone. Good luck trying to get it fixed if it breaks down. I doubt you will be able to get parts for it.

Well, you still didn't define 'on brand' or 'off brand'. I doubt that Blackview regards itself as any kind of cheap knock-off. Big companies started small, and the leading brands have all had their problems. As for getting parts: Apple, for example, bitterly opposed the EU's proposals to allow customers to repair their own phones.

FYI Samsung ceased making phones in China three years ago, and Apple is moving iPhone 14 production to India.

Apparently Yamaha has pulled production from China as well, recently bought a keyboard, and that's made in India rather than China.

BTW I use a Samsung phone, and an Apple MacBook. But I'm not sinophobic, far from it.

The Chinese government's actions to lift many millions of its populace out of grinding poverty have been noted by both those manufacturers who found they could exploit cheaper labour in India with the collaboration of its government. The problem could be the phone's USB type-C doesn't support simultaneous charging and USB audio output. It's one or the other, but not both at the same time.

For a solution, does the Blackview A90 have wireless charging capabilities, or use Bluetooth headphones with it?

Thanks for that response. I never thought of that limitation, you could well be correct. It doesn't have wireless charging. I could use my Bluetooth earphones, that is true. I think you've explained it.

It doesn't apply to Blackview at all. The piece claims, for example, "the phones will not come with Google Play". It does, along with everything else one would expect from a SIM-free phone costing £90. Reviews of the A90 in the press and from users were largely positive before I bought it. I have had it for nearly a year, no problems at all, it has all the features I need and I'm happy with it. That article seems, so far as I can tell with my limited knowledge, poorly researched and brazenly Sinophobic:

You have to admit that there are a tons of crappy products coming out of china and taiwan, both in phones and pretty much everything else that just suck in quality and performance.

And it's not hating on the Chinese people, it's these products that flood places like Wish, Ebay, and Amazon.

Any USB Type-C port has very specific, standardized wiring inside. There are metal contacts spaced out into a specific way inside the port that can only matched directly with the metal contacts in whatever Type-C plug that gets inserted. The metal contacts on the plug are also spaced out in a specific way correspondingly. The most important point being it is NOT a random arrangement, wiring that transfers audio signals or wiring that transfer power are not interchangeable. There are specified pins for power delivery and specific pins for audio signal transfers in both the plug and the port. If they don't match up exactly, the function (charging or listening to songs) won't happen. The wiring inside your phone isn't going to be a random arrangement, power transfers go to the charging circuitry and audio signals go the audio processor chip. You only see that USB plug as a unit but inside it there's a lot more involved.


In your instance, is sounds like those adapters apparently don't actually have the necessary power pins. Or please specify, are their 'charging' ports supposed to work as charging the phone (input) or for power delivery (output)? Are you sure they're not intended to be for data transfer only?

In your instance, is sounds like those adapters apparently don't actually have the necessary power pins. Or please specify, are their 'charging' ports supposed to work as charging the phone (input) or for power delivery (output)? Are you sure they're not intended to be for data transfer only?

As the image I uploaded shows, these adaptors - which are commonly available - are designed to permit users to listen to audio on the phone whilst charging it.
